As the title states, my question is: Do "they" (lbs, shimano, whoever) sell single STI levers, specifically for the rear? I want to go single chainring I think, but I don't really have any desire to buy an extra lever.
hmm...

Yes. I know Shimano sells the DA-7800(1) series separate.
They are cheaper to buy separate than a pair, but do not include cable, housing etc.

I've seen single shifters for sale on eBay before. It is usually the left shifter, but the right shifter pops up for sale too.

Sure they do, check any of the catalog stores, online. I'm running a single ring and was thinking of just buying the one lever, then added the cables, and a lever (really a pair) for the other side and thinking about how the mismatch would feel. I concluded it would be a little substandard without saving enough to make me feel good about it.

Check out Soma or Cane Creek for them.

I already have those shimano brake levers which I am going to pirate from my single speed, I just need some shifters. Although I am thinking as a stop gap getting a set of bar ends so I'll have a front shifter if the time comes and I can shift without putting 200+ down.
