I got a little MP3 player for Christmas. 512MB of Metallica, and nothing but.

Categories don't make sense. Cats 4 and 5 are garbage pails for a bunch of stuff that doesn't go together naturally. Pop, Psychedelic and Christian rock? Bluegrass, folk, bebop and polka? Puleeze!

They're an extreme generalized category. Im not saying that they all mean the same but they have the "rock" relation.

Ambient punk, speed-polka.

Yeah, and the jazz/blues/acid? Is this a Florida or Ohio poll? I'm so confoozed.
Oh well, I voted anyway. I'll just demand a recount later, when my choices lose.

If it was yours, you could load your own music. And reload at will. Few will get that, very few.

Yeah, um, I can't, in good conscience, vote for any of those categories--especially the ones that make no sense to me. Nice poll, tho. Glad to see you got it workin'.:)

I listen to almost every kind of music. My favorites are classical, metal, what's typically referred to as "classic rock", funk, blues, bluegrass/old country and rap...but what's in a name, really?

What's up with teeny-boppers covering classics? Steve Winwood, The Who, Yes, all being covered by Britney, Jessica, and the like. [shudder]

To each his own. James and Lemmy are good friends. Metallica covering Motorhead tunes is raw music at its finest.

RegularGuy

I take it back.

"Spirit in the Sky" was definitely Psychedelic Christian Rock. I think it was written by a Jew, so maybe it's Psychedelic Judeo-Christian rock? The Blind Boys of Alabama do a kickass cover of it, and they are like pure Gospel. I have a cover of it by Elton John from way back in the stone age when he recorded no-name rip-offs of popular songs. Elton is married to a guy which is pretty psychedelic but a lot Christians would have a problem with it. Not me, but, well, a lot of Christians. So, I don't know what is it, but if it's Psychedelic Christian Rock for old blind guys, homosexuals and Jews...what the hey...I like it.

most of the stuff I listen to is electronic, some punk rock stuff and some Americana/Folk/Roots Rock (??) like Uncle Tupelo, Gillian Welch, Wilco, Jay Farrar, etc

btw, electronic doesn't mean crap like techno or dance music, I like Boards of Canada, Air, etc

just sold a bunch of vinyl, 7 Seconds, Minor Threat, Crucial Youth (straight-edge band dedicated to good dental hygiene, lol) and a bunch of other straight-edge stuff on vinyl

I was gonna convert to cd, but I'd never listen to it anyway--most of it sucks, lol

the genre listing can be endless. For instance I like psychobilly. It's Rockabilly with a frenetic side to it. An example would be Reverend Horton Heat.

I also like dream pop like Spaceman3 or Slow Dive.

What about Fennesz? I don't think there is any genre to put him into yet.

Bauhaus are the Alpha - goths.......Still the sKeEriEst after all of these decades.
I saw the Clash on thier first American tour. Penn U., skating rink.
I worked for a band that opened for the Ramones a few times. Joey TRamone was one
of the nicest people that ever lived. *sNiFfLe* *s0B*
Those were the daze ! *b0o* *ho0*

I watched ThE GrEaT RoCk AnD r0LL sWiNdLe last nite and it only reinforces my opinion
that the Sex PiSt0Ls are THE single most important entity in 'rock'(???) music.
Nothing else matters !!! OI OI OI OI !!! :roflmao:
