Touring - Anyone heard of an upright<->recumbent convertible?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What would you think about touring with the ability to switch between an upright and a bent? You could switch on alternating days to work/rest your Quad/Hamstring muscles, or perhaps ride upright style in the mountains and recumbent style on the flats.
I saw a pic on an older thread of someone who made a custom setup like this. i think he used a front wheel drive, bent conversion kit from cruzbike.com, but the kit is not made to go back and forth. It seems with the technology that the folding bike companies are using, they could design a bike that could transform quickly and easily.
Obviously there would be negatives, a bit more weight, more parts (less if they came up with a single quick release crankset instead of 2 cranks), and you'd probably have to use a trailer instead of panniers, but the idea still intrigues me. What you you think?

Sounds too heavy. Besides, you can vary your muscle load on a recumbent simply by moving your seatback up or down.

There is a guy in Seattle who built a bike that went from upright to recumbent--on the fly. I've seen clips of it in action. Not very practical but very interesting
