What would you think about touring with the ability to switch between an upright and a bent? You could switch on alternating days to work/rest your Quad/Hamstring muscles, or perhaps ride upright style in the mountains and recumbent style on the flats.
I saw a pic on an older thread of someone who made a custom setup like this. i think he used a front wheel drive, bent conversion kit from cruzbike.com, but the kit is not made to go back and forth. It seems with the technology that the folding bike companies are using, they could design a bike that could transform quickly and easily.
Obviously there would be negatives, a bit more weight, more parts (less if they came up with a single quick release crankset instead of 2 cranks), and you'd probably have to use a trailer instead of panniers, but the idea still intrigues me. What you you think?
