I always thought our neighbors that live accross from us were a bit odd, but now I know they are. BTW, the man of the house looks like Ernest Hemingway.

Last Sunday, I'm out in the garage working on my bike and a a smallish camper (we're not talking 5 -star Winnebago accomodations here) rolls up and I overhear the conversation and it's the couple's son and family visiting for New Years Eve. Cool enough.

Here's where it gets kind of strange IMO. My wife I can home late last night after spending an evening out and I see the father was talking to his daughter-in- law in her nightgown on the step of the friggin' camper!

The son, daughter-in-law and two rugrats are sleeping in the friggin' camper.

The parents have a big empty house.

Maybe I'm missing something here? Would it kill the parents to get a couple of cot beds if they don't have guests beds?

They kind of remind me of Kathy Bates' mountain family in "About Schmidt".

Maybe the daugher-in-law can't stand the in-laws because they are kind of strange. Said the only way she would go was if they didn't have to sleep in Hemingway's house. :D

My thoughts exactly. Maybe they are terrible housekeepers and the guests won't stay in a shieot hole.

Hey! The kids love the camper. We can't drag 'em out of the dang thing. 'About Schmidt' is our favorite movie, thank you very much. And Dad looks way more like Teddy Roosevelt than Ernest Hemingway.

My neighbor just calls the cops whenever I have a party. Seems bizarre to me...

I used to have some odd ones...well I guess it was just the combination of factors.

1) they had very loud, very furniture moving sex about every night

2) they had a rather easily startled dog

3) that dog was barking in rhythm with the headboard pounding on the wall....two pounds, one bark....two pounds, one bark.

4) this cacophany of counds made it almost sound like the dog was involved in the sex, which even though I knew it wasn't, still disturbed the hell out of me.

So many possible explanations......

First of all....you're making a big assumption that the parents didn't offer to let them sleep in the house.

Maybe neighbors have pets and somebody in the son's family is very allergic to the pets.

Maybe they just bought the camper and WANT to use it...for the camping experience.

Maybe Mr. Hemingway creeps out the son's wife and she doesn't feel comfortable sleeping in the house.

Maybe the son remembers from childhood that his parents snore like banchees and is afraid they won't get any sleep.

Tons of more possible explanations!

Oh, the mind spins with possibilities.

It's probably the exact opposite of what you think.

Or not.

I think I'm the strange neighbor. I mean, I keep odd hours and I've got like twenty bikes in my garage.

Is your neighbor a convicted felon? A registered offender?

You're absolutely right. Seeing the father wearing the daughter-in-law's nightgown is pretty bizarre! ;)

Wow, I never realized that in Wisconson homes had spanish style roof tile and stuco walls. I like how they did the stone front yard instead of grass to give it that "vegas" look.

Well - when we go to visit family, we usually drive.

Soetimes we can park in the family members driveway - sometimes not.

We go to visit in a 35 ft motorhome.

We sleep in our "home". We don't impose on the family, we have our things around us, no-one complains about my bike or my dogs, the kids can watch a TV and video if they want, we have a place to go for private get away space ....... etc.

We do the family thing by visiting, no-one is inconvenienced and we are happy to have our own space.

Not that hard to understand.
