I'm 6', 190lbs. I've read that larger riders (is that me?) arent comfortable on compact frames. Is this true?

I'm 6-1, 185lbs and find my Specialized Festina compact frame comfortable on rides anywhere from 10 to 100 miles.

Compact frames are not much different than normal frames.

Problem is many shops do not know anything about bikes and end up selling them. I see many shops selling customers wrong sizes. Especially wrong top tube lenghts and that is when customers complain about brands.

Nothing wrong with brands. Problem is whom sold it to you.

If you buy the corect top tube lenght that YOU need in any type of frame you will have no problems.

Problem is that some compact brands only give 3 or 4 choices of TT length and they 'make' the fit with stem length. Not always the best souution.Works better when one has more choices in TT length, and can get closer to teh ideal there and then get final fit with less extreme choices in stem length.

Very true. That is why I mentioned to get the exact top tube lenght you need.

Far to many shops simply push what is close or what is instock. I see it almost weekly at the local rides.

Companies now are offering more top tube lenghts so it will be easier to find the correct size.
