So, I've looked around online for the serial number ID from my Schwinn Prelude frame. I found it under my bottom braket, K610380. But the only indiction is that its from 1948, which it is DEFN not. It's pink and has a '70s style schwinn logo on the seat tube.
What gives fellas?

is there anything on the left rear fork? on a schwinn i had, it has numbers in both places, once of which made sense, one of which made none. you might want to just check...just to be sure.

No, i just checked again. Nothing on the left rear tube. Aside from the 'prelude' logo, the only other thing which may help put this puzzle together is a sticker on the seat-tube at the very bottom:
it says TRE TUBI RINFORZATI, then under it it has picture of a dove with 'CHROMO MOLIBDENO' adjacent to it. It also has 'TENAX' under it, and 'COLUMBUS' under that...
the preludes in the late 80s were made with columbus tenax tubing.
edit: maybe the early 90s, too.

word. We'll I'm parting with it and I just wanted to get some background on it before I decided to sell it!
by the way: anyone interested in the frame? ;) It's got some miles on it, ridden by a DJ, it's just too big for me.

On my 86, there is a 4 digit number near the serial #. I have read on this forum that the first 3 digits are the day of the year it was made and the last digit is the year but like how do you know if its 86 or 76 if it just ends in 6 ?
Anyway, i think it "might " be safe to assume that the first 2 digits indicate the month of the year the bike was made and the last 2 digits indicate the year ...
take another look and see what you find... On my bike, the last 2 digits are 86 so I assume it was made in 1986.. this same four digit date encoding scheme is used on computer memory chips.

I cleaned the bottom bracket some more and found a 3-digit number perpendicular to the K610380!
It is 840.
So August 4th, of 19*0?

OK! 1990 it is.
Thanks for the help everyone, you guys are quick!
Now I need to go to a bodega or some **** and buy a measuring tape to measure the frame, lol.
there are preludes from the early 80s, but i think that they are tange, which is why i said '90, just fyi. also, the pink color is much more of a late 80s and early 90s color than early 80s.

First off, WHAT SIZE IS THE FRAME??? I've been looking for a 53 pink Schwinn for, well, some time now.
Anyway, your bike should have a small round headbadge. THIS is where you find that four digit serial number where the first three #'s are the day of the year, and the last is the last digit of the year. Now, as for knowing whether it's 76 or 86 (etc.), you usually can just tell by the color/graphics.
