Road Cycling - 27'' tires?

Anybody know where to get good 27'' tires? All I've seen in nashbar and performance is 700c except the cheaper models.

BTW, is there any advantage to a kevlar bead to a wire one besides the weight advantage? All i can think of is maybe higher pressure because the kevlar doesn't strech, resulting in less rolling resistance. Any other advantages i dont know about?

Panaracer makes their Pasela in 27". If your local shop orders from QBP from time to time, here are the part numbers and features:

I have a couple of Pasela Tourguard 700 x 35 with Kevlar beads for my full-touring Cannondale and they seem pretty durable. Besides lower weight, the other advantage of Kevlar beads is foldability. Panaracer isn't offering the Pasela 27" with Kevlar beads, as far as I can see.

I see Continental does offer their Top Touring 2000 in a 27 x 1 1/4. The TT2000 is massively heavy at 550gr per tire in that size. Conti also makes their Sport 1000 (http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/themes/tires/race/sport_1000/sport_1000_en.html) in 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 sizes, but these are the chintzy non-German-made Contis and I never liked those much.

Aha, just found one other option, the IRC Roadwinner II. They have 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 models with or without Kevlar belts under the tread (all have steel beads, however). These would be good-quality tires like the Paselas.

Omally, i am (to be politically correct) monitarily-impared, and spending-impared as well (I am broke and cheap)

If you are fiscally-challeneged, then avoid Kevlar beads, they are for racing, lightweights and for foldup carry tyres.
Kevlar belts on the other hand make a significant improvement in puncture resistance.

your saying that the only advantage to a kevlar bead is that it folds? BTW, i am not so fiscally challengend that i can't buy two $40 tires. I am, however, not able to plunk down $300 for a pair of wheels. Heck! my parents might even pay for the tires (though its not likely)

Avoid the white 27" Vittoria tires offered by Nashbar. They are sluggish - either heavy or rolling resistance. Not sure which, but they are sluggish. This is surprising considering that they are rated to 120 psi ( and I inflate them to 120).

They are also slippery on wet pavement. Of course, all tires will slip on wet pavement, but these are like plastic on lard.

I think it is due to the fact that there is not enough carbon in the tire. I consulted with a friend of mine who is a tire specialist. He is responsible for all the tires for Schneider Transport - the world's biggest trucking company.

"Bill" told me that for optimum tire life and traction, the tire has to have at least 25% carbon. Once you put 25% carbon in the tire, the tire will be black. He told me to stay away from colored tires - or at least make sure that the part that comes in contact with the road is black.

Of course, he told me that AFTER I already had the white Vittoria
tires. :(

By the way, the 3-D compound is a joke. On the maiden voyage, a shard of glass cut right though the tire, though the threading, and into the tube.

The Vittoria 3-d compound is designed for long tread life, not for puncture protection. Any tyre that is designed for wear won't grip worth a d@mn.

i saw the continental gatorskin for 27 inch tires...what to you think?

get them! good all round tyre good puncture resistance too.
