i just got word that my new Rivendell Atlantis is on it's way!
I ordered back on 8/8/2005. I think they had one in my size in stock at the time but I decided to wait for the next shipment so I could save some cash and pay outright rather than charging it.
These are two pics that they sent me before they packed it up. I had it custom painted by their local painter in gloss black with cream filling. That also added a few weeks to the wait. They said it's the first black Atlantis they've done and that it's absolutely stunning in person! The big brown truck should be delivering it on Friday. Then i will take lots of pics and post full specs. I have a few goodies sitting here waiting to be installed too like some baggins bags, fenders, frame pump... so until then here's the teaser pics!!!!

Whoa! That paint job makes your bike the best looking Atlantis I've seen, by a LONG shot.

I hated that Testor's green on the one I had.

Great bike. Very classic and conservative. Your wait will pay off because you will be riding a truly unique Atlantis. I wonder if they will post a picture in the Atlantis gallery?

From Wikipedia: Black is seen as a color of seriousness and authority.

Your bicycle makes me think of those limousines from the 60's. :D

Actually, that bag is pretty sweet looking! If it was waterproof like my chrome I'd be all over it. It's on sale for $99. But ya, i'm a bit tapped out at the moment to say the least.
Let's see.... $5 per person...... :D

I don't know much about Rivendale's though. Is that a classic you bought or a Brand NEW bike???

I am visiting some relatives in Cali, and among them there is this aunt. She was 6 foot tall in the early 60's, and also she was a proud owner of a Bottechia bike. I am yet to confirm ... but it will probably end up in my hands. I am the only active cyclist in the family at the moment, so the frame is coming my way I guess.

Only one condition: I have to pick it up in Florida ... and I live in Pennsylvania

Nice, Nice, Nice. Looks great with paint job, brown saddle and bars.

Charge them big time for your artistic eye. They are fools if they do not make that their standard paint job.

That bike is a beauty. After you install the goodies, are you going to use it for commuting? I assume you have no plans for locking it outside of your line of sight.

Ya, it's mainly going to be used for commuting, replacing the Gary Fisher Tassajara I'm using now. But i had to sell my nice road bike to help pay for it so i'm planning on it being a do-it-all bike which is one of the reasons for deciding on the Atlantis. So I will be able to commute to work during the week, and then do longer rides on the weekend, all with the same bike. That's the plan anyway. ;)
And it comes into the office with me so it won't be locked outside unless I'm in a store or something. And I will have a personal articles policy on it under my homeowner's insurance just incase it gets stolen or i get hit by a car again or something.

Sounds like a good plan. Again, it is a beautiful bicycle.

How does the whole fitting-the-bike-to-the-customer thing work when you are ordering a bike through UPS?

Good question. Measurements can be done over the phone for frame size. The most important one being your pubic bone height. Then everything else can be tweaked later with saddle height, stem height, etc. Thave fitting tables listed on their site. You'll probably find that they end up recommending a larger frame then you normally ride. Read all about it here.... http://www.rivbike.com/html/bikes_framesize.html

Damn you!! ;)

I'm just about to start riding to public transit (just 3-4 miles one way). Bought an older used Tassajara to be my "leave at BART" bike and I do a search for them to see if there's any comments. Up pops your post and, to add insult to injury, Rivendell is about a 15 minute ride from my house...

Lugged steel... Oooooo... Oh well, something to dream about for when my turn is finally here for the bike locker (30 person waiting list with 18 lockers - should be about, oh, 12 years!)...

That's a beauty!

Beautiful bike build but OMG, they left greasy finger prints on it! Hope you had a polishing cloth handy when you unpacked it. :)

Geez, didn't even notice. It popped up as having new posts, and I never look at the dates more than a post or 2 back.

Also, was very distracted by gorgeous bike pics!

I was wondering where the Shimano 600 headset came from. (Heck, even in 2005 it must've been NOS.)

Very nice looking bike!
