What cranks do you guys with single speed cross bikes use?
i've used 105's, try doing a search for single chain rings
Marcus at www.yojimbosgarage.com got me a Truvativ Elite crankset that I really
like. It is a standard road double with a single chainring mounted on the outside.
I like the cranks since they have a pretty low q-factor even compared to my track stuff and feels as smooth & solid as my ultegra 10 crankset.
what's the word on your Kelly decision?

I am pretty sure I am goin to get the Kelly, but what I really want is a cuctom IF. I have a set of Dura-Ace 7701 cranks that I want to run with the inner chainring and the FSA chain guard on the outside. But I can not figure out for the life if there is a BB that will allow this with the Surly 1x1 hub. But I have never been so excited for a project, especially since I left Chicago for LA. I have mountains and all kinds of trails to ride, never found much in Chicago. But maybe I was not lookin hard enough.
Custom IF? Yeah that does sound pretty sweet.
I actually got a custom S&S road/touring bike built by
ThylacineCycles.com He posts here and was totally awesome
to work with. You should talk drop him a PM (user name
Thylacine) I actually found that by going with a smaller
builder I was able to choose exactly what I wanted instead
of getting a semi-custom like IF's options ANDI found I didn't
have to pay an arm & a leg for custom & now I want a custom
cross bike too. It never ends...
There are a lot of trails further out from Chicago, but it's
hard to compete with LA's weather & mountains. We have
better drivers though :)

Truativ Rouleur crank, FSA 42T chainring, single chainguard (gave me a better chainline than a double)

My bike came with Bontrager cranks which I believe are made by Truvativ. Good crank but it requires an ISIS bottom bracket. I'm not a fan of ISIS. I just installed Ritchey Pro cyclocross cranks which go with an Octalink BB. The cranks and BB spin smoother now.
