I used to have some classical music on tape...you know, the Italian classical stuff that you think of when you watch a Classic race.

Now, I have NO idea what those tapes were...and I can't remember the composers or titles. And I wanna buy a few CD's for my shop, to listen to while working on the bikes.

Can anyone help me out here? I just want to know a few composers and titles of songs (movements?), or even CD titles, that I can find.

Thank you!
Happy New Year!

I second the Telarc Ozawa/BSO. Easily my favorite performance of Vivaldi's 4 concertos, which must be in the top ten of the most easily recognized classical music in the world.

Is there a reason you only want Italian composers? I understand the connection with Italian bikes, but you're getting into some real heavy territory. You'll probably want Verdi--start with the standard La Traviata and Aida.

Nope, no specific reason for Italian. Really doesn't matter, I just naturally think Italian when I think about biking! :D I suppose any composers at all...

Get il Divo. They are da bomb.

Also, try to get some music by Andrew Bocelli. His voice is awesome.

I know there's a composer out of Europe I like, but his name escapes me- I'll repost later.

I don't know if this is "cycling music," but it's Italian and I like it: The Pines of Rome, by Ottorino Respighi. (It was the music in Fantasia 2000 with the killer whales!)

Actually I am partial to Delibes. But any good head bangin music will do in a pinch.

Yeah, soundtracks offer some of the most accessible of classical music. Schindler's List and Princess Monnonoke come to mind.

How about Mendelsohn's Italian Symphony? It was part of the "Breaking Away" soundtrack. Get the recording from the Marlboro Music Festival which also has the same composer's "Octet For Strings" on the disc. The Octet is great indoor trainer music.

Breaking Away also used a healthy dose of Rossini's The Barber of Seville in the cycling scenes

I remember classical music being called 'long hair' music back when. I guess to separate it from the short hair music?

I still don't get the connection between bicycling and heavy metal music...

Buy Yves Montand's "La Bicyclette." I think you can find it on Amazon, if not eBay. He's a French singer from the 50's/60's. He was also an actor. The music's very fun, in my opinion, it's very good. I prefer Yves to Jacques Brel or Charlez Aznavour any day! :)

Anyway, it is the Tour de France. Cycling is in their blood!

I love piano music. Listen to Rachmaninoff.

Try Kraftwerk, they have done several CD's inspired by the Tour de France. It's electronica and very nice. Some samples here: http://audio.search.yahoo.com/search/audio?_&ei=UTF-8&fr=slv1-yme&albid=XXXXXXR000655632&p=Tour+de+France+Soundtracks&antrid=XXXXXXP000004706
