Hello, I am a rider from Schenectady NY. The temp is right around the freezing mark so I thought a nice ride into work this morning would not be too bad. Now I've got a big pile of slush dripping from my bike and wet feet. I don't mind getting a little cold in the morning riding in, but hacing to go through the day with wet feet is the worst. Fortunately, I can wear my sandals today as things are not too formal around here.

I can't wait for the spring when I can get out and just ride for the fun of it. My ride is an old Cannondale R800 which is missing a rear wheel at the moment because one of the spoke guides pulled out of the rim. At least I have an excuse to stay off of the rollers. Riding inside is too boring.

I hope that the bike that you are riding to work is your "commuter" bike. If it is you are in pretty good shape. If you don't mind looking at a dirty bike you can almost get away with just keeping the chain lubed well and keep an eye on your brake and derailleur cables. Nowadays, most bikes have most of the important parts pretty well sealed so that you can ride in the rain and not have to worry so much about where all that water may be going. As far as your feet getting wet, I would recommend getting a good pair of Neoprene booties that fit right over your cycling shoes. These work great at keeping your feet both warm and dry. Good luck in your commuting. It is a great way to keep yourself in reasonable shape until you can back into serious training when the weather becomes more cooperative.

Do you have fenders? If not they may save you (and your feet) from such misery in the future.

Welcome: I was in Schenectady last June, stayed at the Parker Hotel, downtown is looking better, went up to Saratoga one night, had a great time, great dinner at the Old Boyd Inn, if I go this year [for job related training] the bike will be going with me, would like to ride around the Saratoga area, anyway your worst enemy this time of year is the road salt, that really wrecks stuff fast.....
