I need to make an offer on a Waterford Precision 1900. It's about 10 years old but doesn't look it. The frame is in great shape. It has Deore XT brakes and Shimano 105 cranks, deraillers, and shifters. The rims are Mavic T217. What would a fair offer be for a bike like this? Thanks
Tough question - today the frame & fork sell new are beween $1,800 and $1,900 - if you order directly from Waterford no discount. You see them occasionally new from dealers on Ebay and used from individuals, but not that often and not in common sizes. Make sure it's the right size because of the sloping top tube. Alot depends if you want a great deal or just a good deal. I bought mine new on ebay in 2002/2003 it was new but a 1998 frame from a bike show and Waterford had just put into storage.It was a Ultegra triple - tubus rear rack, Ultegra 36 hole hubs - the dealer and I negoiated to switch rear Ultegra der amd cassette out to XT and Cassette. It had know seatpost - price was $1,200 plus shipping.
I would have considered this a screamiming deal until I bought a Waterford 22 framewith a Chris King Headset for $400 this summer. By the way I find that Waterford Touch up paint does wonders to make their frames look new.
In my opinion
Low end ($800-$1,000)
high end ($1.400 - $1,600)
Middle of the road $1,200
Alot depends on condition - make sure the frame is straight - and parts - what you are describing is not to fancy and I suspect you will be switching come of it out in short order. By the way I am not a fan of these rims based some recent experiences

Dear Vosyer: Thanks for the info. I was a little concerned because the Waterford Precision 1900 I saw did not have a sloping top tube. The frame was 10 years old + but the componets didn't look as old. Also what experiences did you have with the rims. Just interested because I will be changing out some things if I end up with the bike. Thanks again
I am running Velocity Aeroheads - the is a lot of postings on this very subject, you should take alook at them. I am a fan of Velocity Deep Vees and Fusions - are you going to do loaded touring or credit card, does weight make a difference to you, what size tires are you going to ride. If you are going to run 40 hole hubs you have more limited choices. just a host of questions - sorry I hope I didn't confuse you. Lots to kick aroung including chainring combinations, bar end shifting versus STi, the right racks etc. First just buy a bike and just try in out - you don't what you dislike until
try things out.
Sorry I didn't answer your question - I had to replace a set of 217's this summer with a bulge in the side at 2500 miles. I had to have them rebuilt one day before going on tour - mine were 48 hole in the rear and 40 in the front with White Industries hubs. I wasn't a happy camper because my trip almost didn't happen.
