Fifty Plus (50+) - Dadgumit!

Guys,

Nice day for an early morning ride here in Central Oklahoma (the prairie fires aren't near here). Mid-40's. After taking a longish pull with my two regular riding mates and pulling back into line, I got into the rear wheel of the leader.

BOOM! "Mimi," my trusted 1968 Peueot U08, and I went down hard at about 18mph. Nothing broken and a minimum of roadrash because of the cold weather gear. We're both scraped and sore, but will be back soon enough! Landed on one hand and the side of my helmet. Hard. VERY glad I am 100% consistent about the helmet deal.

Glad it was a smooth road and my slick outer shell helped me slide. The fact that there was no vehicular traffic was also very nice. Totally my fault. My other bud ran over me and went down, also. The guy who DIDN'T go down this time broke a collar bone in August in an almost identical circumstance.

Oh, well. Be careful out there.

Happy to hear that you're OK, outside of some road rash. Only had two (knock on wood) of my own over the years -- but I do remember how quickly it all happens within a blink of time.

Glad you're okay (for the most part). Really glad you had that helmet!

Unhappy to see another helmet bite the dust, but just imagine how much face or scalp could have left on the road. I keep saying that one of the reasons I ride off road is that the tarmac keeps having a go at me. Mud is a softer landing anyday.

Glad to see your OK, but take more water with it next time.

And did Mimi come through unscathed? Crashes always seem good reminders of something or other. Does Specialized (not knowing your helmet brand) still have a helmet replacement policy for crashes......it was probably years ago.

Anyway, glad you and your partner came through. From your other recent post--just shows you should ride with the wife more often!

Whew, thank goodness you were wearing a helmet. I don't understand the argument that helmets won't protect you in any situation. The point is that, in certain circumstances, they do the job.

My first bike was a Peugeot. Is yours white? Always loved the look. Can't, for the life of me, remember what I did with my old one.

You'll probably be sore in other spots in the days to come, but very happy you made it through for the most part undamaged.

And did Mimi come through unscathed? Mimi was PISSED OFF, but she is fine! She'll get over it and we'll be buds again tomorrow.

Keith, like most Puegots of the era, she has a white complexion and is long-legged. Like me, she's a little pudgy with the years.

The helmet? a stylish black Vetta, circa 1980. Although wearing this unique stylish "Star Wars" type helmet is always an attention getter, I think it's time now to purchase a new one. I smacked the hell out of this one. We're talking concusison or worse without one.
