A few other music threads got me thinking about concerts
so who did you see for your first concert?
I saw the Beau Brummels on Hullabaloo but that doesn't really
count as a live concert.
After that it was either The Who in Central Park or
Blue Cheer at the Filmore East, cant remember which was
first.

Saw The Mission Mountain Woodband, sometime in the late 70s. They were followed in the same show by Hank Williams, Jr. making his triumphant return to Montana after he fell off a mountain hunting and nearly got his face ripped off. Then came The Allman Brothers band, with just Gregg, no Duane. Just Dickie Betts and some other guitarist who I don't remember. Not a bad show though as I remember.

I saw Smashing Pumpkins and Camper Van Beethoven. Smashing Pumpkins was openinng for Camper, and this woman was screaming about how great Smashing Pumpkins was going to be someday, and I was like "No friggin' way, man!". This was back in the late 80s....

I think mine was either U2 or Pink Floyd in the DFW area in 1988.
Pink Floyd I wasn't ready for at all.
I wish I would have been born at least 10 years before my time...I missed out on all the great stuff!
At least I can say I saw Nirvana live..I guess.

MartyYeah that time period is a bit of a blur for me too. My first was either Simon & Garfunkel at Cobo Hall or Jethro Tull at Masonic Temple in Detroit, 1968 or 1969. The air sure smelled funny at those concerts! :)

I won't count Jim Stafford at the Florida state fair when I was about 5 or the big Hillbilly Hodown thingy I went to with an uncle about age 7.

*MY* first concert was in 1985. It featured Toto and was opened by John Parr. Do you remember John Parr (just barely, I know).

I remember it was the night before Easter because the next day, Easter Sunday, we went to Cypress Gardens and I proudly wore my Toto concert t-shirt (which quickly got pooped on by a bird).

1991 Lalapalooza with Niravana, Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction - :D

Whoa! What date was that on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour?? To my knowledge, Jane's Addiction headlined the first tour in 1991 with the likes of Rollins Band, NIN, Body Count, Living Colour, and the Butthole Surfers

Chili Peppers headlined the 1992 version, which was awesome lineup of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Ministry, Ice Cube, and The Jesus & Mary Chain

Nirvana never played Perry Ferrell's festival, to my knowledge....

Janes, Nirvana, Peppers.... that would have been a show to see in 1991!!!

I don't really remember my actual 'first concert'. I've always been around live music, my older brothers were in bands... and I played my first gig when I was 14.

My first 'big' concert by a 'famous' band was when I was very young, my brothers took me to a KISS show, but I don't remember where or what year. It was sometime in the late 70's...

If I remember right, the front of the stage was right about the pitcher's mound. If we are talking about the same concert, Grand Funk Railroad also played. I accidentally kicked Mark Farner in the noggin when they came out from the dugout to play. The Allman Bro's IMO, kicked everybody's butt at that concert.

I caught the first two in Detroit a couple times. I'm pretty sure one was a benefit for John Sinclair (?), an activist who got 20 years on a frame for possession of two joints? (Wasn't one of their songs "2 will get you 20"?) It might have ben at the 1st UU Church but that's just a guess.

Like I said, sometimes the actual details are a little foggy!

Not to everybody. I really detest crowded events now....I don't go to concerts anymore unless I REALLY REALLY LOVE the band (and there are only a few that would fit that category).

Ditto that. I broke myself of the concert habit after being the business for a few years. Haul the groups around for awhile and you can become jaded and mean spirited in the face of the continual stupidity you witness in town after town. Since I left the business in 1978, I have limited my "concert" going mostly to bar appearances of lesser known groups who do the bar scene. I did win some Rod Stewart tickets and went with my daughter. It was odd being out near the sound and light boards but not part of the action.

I ran into a friend who I had not seen for a few years. Durning our conversation I began to reminiss of our experiences surrounding the Hendrix concert in the late 60's.
He interrupted me and said. "I saw Hendrix?".

If I didn't own the photos, I would probably have the same reaction.

Naw, this was in the 80's when I was like, 10 or 11. Herman's Hermits, The Grass Roots and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap opened for them, though, and a bunch of drunk sorority girls kept on wanting to dance with me. It was great. :) I'm pretty sure that was my first, if not Weird Al Yankovic. That was a good show, too. Colin Quinn opened up for Weird Al.

Actually I meant a concert is still important to teenagers. :) I don't go to them much anymore, unless symphony. I like a smaller venue, like a bar, for other music.
