I would like to know what music CDs/DVD's you have that you really feel were good buys for the money. I am not interested in downloading single songs, I'm just interested in the old fashion method of going to the store and buying stuff. I don't care what genre, what albums do you feel gave you the most bang for your buck?
Best music DVD purchases
AC/DC's Family Jewels- A legitimatly extensive collection of over 40 music videos from AC/DC. A steal at 20 bucks, every AC/DC fan should have it.
Rush In Rio- I would rather have seen them in a concert, but at 20 bucks its pretty good.
Pink Floyd in Pompei- Another good one since I never got to see them in a concert. Another steal at 8.99, but I believe it usually goes for 20 bucks.
Best CD's
Metallica- I love every CD but Saint Anger, but I think Kill 'em all and Ride the Lightning are non stop good music.
AC/DC- My favorite is Back in Black. I believe there are enough copies for every household in america to have one.
Rush- I think their best cds are Permanent waves, Moving Pictures and Chronicles or 74-87 greatest hits.
Pink Floyd- As of yet I only have a few of their albums, but from what I can tell they are all pretty good except for "the final cut", which sucks.
Motley Crue- Motley Crue did something unusual and put all of their best and most popular mateial into "Red White and Crue", which is a must for anybody who likes them and doesn't want to spend a ton of money on albums.
Guns N Roses- Their greatest hits album does not have all of their greatest hits, but for 10 bucks or so its pretty good.
I have a lot of other music, about 1,400 songs total, but the above listed stuff is what I think are the best deals I got.

When I was a teenager, I pumped gas at a small station in NH. 8 track tapes had just begun to hit the scene and my boss began stocking them. The guy who kept us in tapes also supplied vinyl records to all the music shops on the RTE 16 corridor. He used to sell me any album I wanted for $1.50. I bought over 200 albums that summer.

The Who - Who's Next
Iain Matthews "If You Saw Thro' My Eyes". $1.99 in a cut-out bin. Richard Thompson on guitars; Sandy Denny on back-up vocals. Not a bad song on the album. The title cut alone - a duet between Iain and Sandy - is worth it.

Kingtermite,
I have Heart Greatest Hits, but there is way to much soft music on there for my tastes. It does have all of there popular songs, and thats why I bought it, but for my purposes they only needed one disk. I also have The Who greatest hits, but I only care for the last several songs. My Generation through Squeeze Box really is really boring to me.

The entire Steely Dan catalogue upto Gaucho. A couple of years ago Borders had them all in a 3 for 25 bin. They were the 20th Century Remasters series with all new liner notes.

You probably have the newer greatest hits collection (I think they've made 2 or 3 different ones). I have, I think the first greatest hits CD which I got in the late 80s. It's got pretty much only their 70s and early 80s stuff which is not the soft stuff they started doing in the mid 80s.
Edit: Ok, here it is. This is the one I have.

The newer heart set has most of those songs, but your 1 disk collection certainly seems to have all the good stuff and no crap.
Speeking of heart, I have a funny story. This is a distant connection, but a friend of a friend, his uncle used to be a roadie for them. During a concert, he managed to throw a twinkie in Ann's fat mouth, and he and his buddy were fired.

:roflmao: That's funny stuff!!
Ya know...they went soft in the 80s, but some of their 90s and later stuff seems to have picked back up a bit again. Ever hear the "Desire Walks On" CD (mid 90s I think)? I have it......great CD. Now they have reformed but call themselves the LoveMongers and I heard a good song or two by them.

Here are two you've probably never heard of, that I've listened to about 1000 times each:
The Las (their self-titled, and only, release)
Kirsty MacColl - Kite
The Las are (were) hard-edged pop/rock, vaguely reminiscent of the Beatles in terms of catchiness and song quality (but very different music). Kirsty Macoll is (was) again brilliant songwriting, with a haunting voice and great lyrics. Also kind of pop, but with many delicious flavors thrown into the melting pot.
I got each of those CDs at a local used CD shop for about $4 each (I'd already bought the cassettes new years before)....
Perhaps needless to say, but Beatles would be a bargain at any price, especially Abbey Road.

A couple of others that just sprung to mind....a couple of hard/edgy rock bands with female lead singers.
Superjesus - Sumo
Skindive - Skindive (too bad the band broke up after this first album which is AWESOME)

Can you believe, ironically, that I just noticed Heart is playing here soon. I snagged some decent tickets. :)
