so how's this for a bummer iam trackstanding at a intersection in a downpour,
and when i go to move forward as the light changes my oury grip flies
of the handlebar. i end up on the ground still holding the grip, and i was
more surprised then injured. though i did get a good bruise and cut on my leg,
i can't win lately.

spraypaint your grips on....
edit: as in use spraypaint to install your grips. They won't come off till you cut them off.

same thing almost happened to me the other day, except i was climbing a hill. i guess the rubbing alcohol i'd used to install the grips hadn't completely dried yet.

i was thinking that would have sucked alot more,i used some hairspray till the bar tape i ordered
comes in.were you hurt?

My lbs guy shot air in the grips as he installed them...good luck ever getting them off now!

i wasn't hurt. the grip slid halfway off, but i saved myself from falling and pushed the grip back on, all while still climbing the hill. it was pretty sketchy though.

Yes, works great (for getting them off too). Next time I install grips I'm going to try the Ceya method:

rubber cement is a PAAAAIIIIN and really messy. Seriously, coming from a background in mountainbike racing where we live in the muck and water, spray paint on the inside of the grips lets you slip them onto the bars easily, and once the paint cures the grips will never slide off.

Compresses air works well to get grips on and off, but once water seeps in there then it can slip right off.

hairspray is better then spray paint

That is the best way to instal grips. I do it every time.

hairspray is even worse when it gets wet b/c it acts like a lube.
Wet spraypaint wipes off with a rag, rubber cement doesn't. To each their own though. It's just what all the DH and mountaincross guys use. I guess some just like loose grips.

If you apply it on correctly it is not messy.

Spray paint..messy andif I want to sell my bars it is mesy to get off. Imoncrank saw a demo I did and it was easy ,mess free and quick.


No air, no paint, nothing but cheap glue. I can give you a demo as well since you are in the NYC.


You apply the glue in the grips all the way to the base , one quick dab of glue and work your way to the top of the grip.

side note :the Ceya's NYC Keirin meet and greet is postponed til Feb '06.

Ah yes, good ol' hairspray, which will get slippery as **** the second it gets wet. Clear Krylon is MUCH better since its not affected by water. As far as proper installation, if you want zero mess/overspray, spray the INSIDE of the grip with Krylon and slide it on, exactly as you would with hairspray. If you use the clear stuff, no one will ever be able to tell.

dh guys use odi lock-ons, pretty much exclusively. slipping isn't an issue. if i used flats/risers i'd use em too

I've got oury lock-ons on two bikes. They're alright, but they don't have the same cush that normal ourys do.

Also, the lock ons sometimes break at the inner sleeve, especially in cold conditions. I guess a lot of guys I know still use them though, but everyone else is hooked on the krylon.

I use Warlock grips, just as comfy as Oury, but way tighter inner diameter.

Plus I never see my grips pass by me on the street...

iam trying out some new bars tomarrow that are called
on one mungo bars sort of look like moustache bars,iam gonna
use tape around most of the bar and the ourys on the ends.
so i will try either cheap glue or the kryon.
there is a maintence guy at my job who is this
columbian guy who can fic anything. he did something today
involving the sticky part of duct tape on the inside of the grip.
no problems on the way home,but it was dry.
the other two options sound better.
