Touring - South of France and Italian Coast?

I am interested in riding from somewhere in the South of France...maybe Marsaille, or St Tropez to the Tuscan coast of Italy....Has anyone made this trip?...is it a doable trip....I have heard that traffic can be a problem...

I did it in reverse many years ago and would advise against it. The Italian Riviera is nonstop development and traffic. The French Riviera is only marginally better. There are many areas in both countries which are far better for touring.

Not that are an improvement. I don't think any parallel roads exist along the Italian coast, but I haven't checked my maps. Part of the French Riviera has a series of "corniche" roads, 3 of them, I believe. The upper ones would be dreadful--fast moving & dense traffic. The one right along the coast is the least awful, and there are a few small stretches which are actually pleasant, but not enough, IMO, to endure the bad parts. Of course, there are also the autoroute/autostrada which are not allowed for cyclists. Between Genoa & the border, I don't recall any pleasant parts at all, and this was a long time ago.
