A big "Thank You!!!" to all of you for helping this newbie get to 1,000 miles commuting. I haven't posted in awhile, guess I've been too busy riding! :p Anyway, I started commuting back in July and have been relatively consistent riding 2 to 4 times per week on my 26 mile round trip commute. The only problem now is that they have temporarily closed the place I shower for renovations. :( Oh well, I should be back in the road in November.

Good Job!! I haven't quite hit the 1000 mile mark yet myself but I'm sure looking forward to it.

Despite living in perpetually hot & humid Queensland, I find I can get by without a shower. A good solid spray of deodorant does the job just as well. The other thing yuo can do is ride at an easy pace for the last couple of km of your ride to work in order to cool down a little.

Thanks for the idea. It has actually been a little cooler here in Houston lately, maybe cool enough to ride in without a shower.

Pforbes,
Way to go! 1k is a true milestone for a commuter. It's when you realize "Hey, I must really be doing this! I'm a bicycle commuter!" I was so proud when I hit my first 1000, I took my digital camera that morning so I could take a picture of my computer at 1000 as well as a picture of the street sign at the corner where it rolled up. Several k later I still think about that morning sometimes when I pass that corner.

Keep it up!

I hit 1500 this morning. I think I felt a lot cooler when I hit 1000. Maybe when I hit 10000 I will be like rainman and take a camera. I started around July as well but my commute is 36 miles round trip. (Long but there are no hills)

I just hit 1000 commuting miles since March 28th (day I started riding). I never computed my total for commuting miles only until I saw this post. Luckily the Excel spreadsheet I use made it really easy to figure out. My commute is only 23 mi roundtrip, so I don't rack up many miles that way. I'm almost at 3000 mi total since March 28th. My goal is 3500 before the end of the year. Goal next year is 5000 mi.

Anybody else set yearly goals like this?

WTG! You'll find that the miles seem to pile up faster and faster as you stop obsessing over the numbers and the commute becomes routine. Eventually you'll be measuring by the number of sets of tires you've worn out! :)

Rock and roll! Keep on keeping on!

Milestones are great, enjoy them as they come. Now on to wearing out those tires.

I racked up my 2,000th mile last night on my new bike I bought in June, 600 miles of that was in a two week period down the Danue trail in Germany/Austria, most of the rest on my 4 days a week 17 mile round commute
