my thread got deleted in general biking. deleting pics inside the thread is one thing but the whole thread?
i'd like to see the reason on my PM box, but i guess that's too much to ask.

The mods have blue stars next to their names.

Why doesn't BF have a page that lists the mods like most forum websites? It would help for users to have a clue who to go to for problems rather than scanning through threads looking for blue stars....or starting threads with personal requests.

Just a thought.

We do. Its convoluted to find. Find a mods name at the bottom ofthe main page and click on the blue star :)

Here is a link (http://www.bikeforums.net/showgroups.php) to the list.

Although I love it how some mods are set to 'invisible' mode and you can't find them at the bottom of the page ;)...or if none are online. What you need is a LINK 'Mod List' down the bottom of the page where the 'users online' section is!

or people could just press the blue stars...

I understand it would be nice, but really its not hard to press the star...

Or you could read my post again. IF there are no mods online there ARE no blue stars? Ever thought of that? Especially when some mods are on 'invisible' mode, thats just really helpful aint it ;). As I have suggested in the past a small link at the bottom of the page is NOT going to hurt anyone that says 'moderator list'. It would also stop all this 'who are the mods' business. Pretty Simple really...unless there's a good reason why not.

For anyone who may not be aware of how offensive this post is to the moderator's group, a bit of enlightenment is in order:

The Schutzstaffel was the very essence of Nazism -- the elite group of the Party, composed of the most thorough-going adherents of the Nazi cause, pledged to blind devotion to Nazi principles, and prepared to carry them out without any question and at any cost, including the deportation and Germanization of inhabitants of conquered territories, enslavement of foreign labor and illegal use of prisoners of war, concentration camps for the extermination of the Jews and and planning and waging aggressive war.

Can the mod[s] who deleted the thread posted by mr. gudel in general discussion please tell me exactly why it was deleted, and please reference the bikeforums rule[s] that it broke?

Thanks, and I await your response.

The reason it was deleted was because any time a picture of a woman is posted for the purpose of discussion, it turns into a bunch of boys behaving like children. Bikeforums has a large female membership, and they don't appreciate the objectification of women. In the past, every thread like that quickly turned to rude comments and innuendo, then the moderators were bombarded with complaints. The moderator that deleted the thread was simply curtailing it before it got out of hand.

Does that explanation suffice?

So it did not violate any bikeforums rules then?

A pre-emptive strike?

Please check out Joe Gardners' basic guidelines in the Introduction section. It sounds like the wiped post violated the top one and maybe the next two as well. The mods act as assistant janitors and until I have as many posts as most of them have I'm not likely to argue with them.

About hidden users a relative of mine was a senior editor on another national level site like BF. Multiple names and hidden identities were needed to keep the system from being jammed by Users needs, demands, hate mail, spam, endless communications. . . Even the amount of chit-chat (my wording) in the editors-only section was wearing.

About the only time I view ladies as WOMEN is when I am doing Argentine Tango.

I see no reason whatsoever why a moderator would feel the need to be logged in as invisible. Part of a moderator's duties is to be available to assist any member who needs it.

I'm a Senior Moderator on another online forum. I never log in as invisible, I have no one on my ignore list, and I accept PMs from everyone. They even have access to my IM identities, if the prefer to contact me that way. There have been times that I appear as online, and a member sends a PM, but I've navigated away from the forum before getting the notice. It happens. There are also members I prefer to have no contact with, because they've demonstrated to me that they're *******s. I will still assist them if they request it. If I ever get to the point where I don't want to help them, I'll resign as moderator.

Maybe it's just me, but I view the position of Moderator on any forum to be one of not only Enforcer of the Rules, but also Teacher and Helper.

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, just giving my opinion.

*Speaking for myself only, not all the moderators.

I log in as invisible because I have an ADSL connection at home, and I'm always logged on there. I also log in at work. Because I'm on the other side of the planet, some people may get the mistaken idea that I'm actually available all the time, which is not the case. It's just easier to leave it this way, than it is to have someone PM me thinking that I'm at the computer, only to wait 8 hours for a response.

I think we all had a massive discussion on that in the "New Forum Moderators" thread. Is there any progress going with that? Will there be something to click on where you can find who the mods are. eg. Up the top next to Members List.

I have a T3 line both at home and work, which also means I'm always logged into the internet. I simply make sure that when I'm done visiting the forum I moderate, I navigate away from the site, thereby appearing to be logged out (other than refresh lag). I have no problem with it if you go visible when you're actually on the site, not that what I think has any bearing in what you do.

Overall, I think the mods here do a great job. I sure as hell wouldn't want to have to put up with the BS that you must go through every day. The forum I moderate has 3723 members and the most ever online (since November when we switched software) was 108. I've seen 108 members viewing a subforum here. But then, bicycling is a fairly universal activity, whereas the forum I moderate is specific to a 4-year production range of a specific car.
