Has anybody used a formula to determine body fat? A newsletter that I subscribe to had an article about body fat and listed 2 formula's that could be used to determine body fat. They are:

MALE BODY FAT CALCULATOR
100*(-98.42 + 4.15waist - 0.082weight)/weight) = % Body Fat

FEMALE BODY FAT CALCULATOR
100*(-76.76 + 4.15waist - 0.082weight)/weight = %Body Fat

Can somebody who has had their body fat measured use one of the above formulas? I am interested in seeing how accurate they are.

Thanks

uh, it's been a while since I did math and all, but that gave me a negative number.

You need units!

I ended up with a negative weight... I think I went overboard with my weight-loss training...

You actually should come up with a positive number (remember your order of operations from algebra and divide everything that you get on top by your weight which is the only number on the bottom) I came up with 11.3% which is actually within 1% of the value that I got the last time that I had a skin-fold caliper test done.
However, I don't know if this would work for everyone because people have fat stored in places other than around their waist. Some people are "apples" and some people are "pears".
