A few people do, but honestly racing is a smaller and smaller sect of the BMX market these days.
My son has a Redline Flight Expert. I'm pretty sure the majority of bikes at the track are built up rather than bought complete. But good luck finding a race bike at a bike shop. There is only one bike shop that carries race bikes in my area, and they may only have 2 at a time out of 200 bikes. At my sons age, 11. The Redline complete bike is great, it's about 19 lbs, sturdy, sealed everything, and all alum. If he doesn't win races, it's not because of any part of the bike. Racers start to get goofy with compnents. I don't believe that at the level of local racing, a differnet wheel set, freewheel, BB, or any other part is going to make the differnece. Pedeling faster, braking later, jumping lower wins the race. Not the bike. Perhaps at a level when racers are consistantly finishing within a second or two of each other a bike upgrade may make a difference. Then there's the dad that insist on having the cool stuff for his sons bike. Makes the dad feel better. Likely to be the dad thats yelling at his son after the race for not trying harder, and being an all around jerk. Them guys bother me. I see kids on cheapo bikes having fun though, and that's where it's at. It's not like you can get a college scholorship on a BMX bike.
Yeah, the complete racing bike thing is true, I work at a bikeshop and thats how I got most of my parts, just getting my BMX
38x16 with 175mm cranks? Are you short, really young, or just like mad-spinning?
Yeah, the complete racing bike thing is true, I work at a bikeshop and thats how I got most of my parts, just getting my BMX racing frame was a pain even though we are FMF dealers, it took almost 2 weeks to get ahold of the company and then it got in here in about 12 hours so that works out, AND TODAY I LOST A PEICE TO THE INTERNAL HEADSET IM GOING TO FLIIIIIP OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IM SO MAD I LOST THE STUPID TOP CAP PART NOT THE VERY TOP BUT KINDA IN THE MIDDLE! NOW I HAVE TO LOOK ALL OVER MY SHOP FOR IT AND PROBABLY ORDER A NEW ONE FOR LIKE $10 WITH SHIPPING OMG!!!!!!!!!!. sorry. but im still mad. the only company that really has a line of racing complete BMX is FMF, they have all sizes...I built mine custom with parts anywhere from FMF to thomson and awnser etc...your sons bike is almost lighter then mine!! sorry for the horrible errors now but im very very mad about my stupid headset that i lost ONE peice to and now i couldnt build it tonight,i really am going to lose sleep over it, i think i have an ocd for losing things. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FACT: No one cares about your problems.
hahaha, I was having a temper tantrem when you were posting that sorry, I didn't see it, well you see I dont race so having a large gear ratio is useless for me...So basicly having that biek is useless, I only have it because its really light (almost 17 lbs) I'm 5'5 and I like the low gear ratio because I like to ride sit down wheelies for pretty much ever and I like to do manuals as well so going from a log sit down wheelie up a hill and then manueling down the hill and continuing the wheelie is what I usually do.
Fact: Your a raging alchoholic and your name shows it.

See? And I get called a dick? We're honest in the BMX threads, and we cop it.
I have to pack all my bikes back into boxes so they can spend a month or so in a shipping container. His headset part is hardly a big deal.
Why would you be a dick?
And why are your bikes in boxes for a month?
Darin, I had a sweet mullet till' I was like 12...I should have kept it, I have been thinking of growing it out...

Not intirely accruate:
My sons bike. Not bad for complete.

Someone got all up on me for telling it like it is. Oh well. I'm moving from Australia back to the US. Major pain, major $$. At best, I'm looking at 2 months without riding.

Seems to me that you're trying to call me out because no one gives a rat's ass about your personal problems. "zOMG i dropped a piece of my headset cap because im an idiot omgomg and now im going to rant about it hoping that someone has a bit of sympathy"
Beerman, chill out. Have a beer. :D
Some thread get off topic. Some just get wierd.
I Still havent found it...
I bought a whole new headset, stupid top cap.
You bought a whole headset for the topcap, and you're calling it stupid? :D
Yeah, but the thing is I work at a bikeshop so I said "F IT!". Just like that really loud. And I was talking with a customer about his sons bike and I stopped in the middle of my sentence and said "F IT!" and then continued talking about his sons bike.

What a great story! Do you have an agent? :D
I don't get that, please explain. I do have a very good memory and story telling skills.
Ok, I will get told that I'm mean for pointing out the obvious.
You don't race, don't have a track nearby, yet you built a race bike. You lost a simple part that really isn't needed, so bought a whole headset to replace it. In the middle of serving a customer, you uttered a profanity.
I was poking fun at your story of swearing. Don't know why you felt the need to share that.
It's better than that ExPat...on top of your points, he built a race bike and geared it so that he could ride wheelies while seated. I can see it now...he's half way through the second turn when the field crosses the line and the call comes from the tower:
"Please clear the track. The next group is 15 Expert and we don't want them to run over you in the rhythm section."
hahaha, it's ok I can take it that was a good one. And the "F it" story wasn't real, I like my job I intend to keep it, I'm actually in he process of getting people togethor to restore an old track we had, so I will soon have a track, probably sometime this summer. Haha, second turn wow that was a good one:)...

no no no no, I didn't lose the VERY top cap, the part that is above the stem, I had that... I lost the peice that goes just below the stem, If I had lost the very top cap the part that goes above my stem I would have found a new one. If that is what you think I lost anyways..

How do you post pics? I have pictures of my bike now but i dont know how to put the picture on here lets see if this works...
I think I got it this time!!!!!!!
Go back and edit your post. You need to use the "Go Advanced" option, not "Post Quick Reply". You want to hit the button that says "Manage Attachements", if I remember correctly. Go from there.
Wow, look at that bike :)
Cool, it's a cross country BMX. Why is the seat higher than the bars? Should be closer to stem height.

The better question is why the hell is he using cruiser-sized bars on a 20"? Get some Slams on there.
That picture was taken before I had even been able to ride it, so it was in the stand. It had not been adjusted yet...Cruiser-sized bars? Are you drunk posting again? Those handlebars have a about 6.5" raise crack head. Look it up before bashing.

Are you trying to tell me that bars with a 6.5" rise are normal for BMX riding? Look through a catalog of bars; probably 90% of the bars in there are going to be between 7.25" and 8".
Enough with the name calling. Beerman is the Simon Cowell of Bikeforums. Those bars look like they came off my cruiser.

Ummm, like a FREE agent?
Look under racing handlebars, or just ligt handlebars 90% of them are 6.5" and sometimes 3.5".
