I say that I hate it when people take pictures from the non-drive side. You can't identify the crankset or derailleurs. However, this appears to be a boom era De Luxe model based on the lack of chrome and supported by what appears to be Simplex shifters and a steel, cotterless crank. This was Bottechia's entry level lightweight. In 1973 it cost about $135.00 US and this was high for the time. The only way that I would pay $100 for this was if I collected Bottechia, was missing this particular model, it was in excellent condition and was the right size. But before you dismiss it, contact the seller to ensure it is a De Luxe. The picture isn't good enough to tell for sure.

looks like a low end bottechia, 100 bucks is a little high imho.
before anything else.. it is your size?

I will ask them in a phone call tomorrow about size and components. I simply recognized the name and figured it might be worth pursuing...any thoughts as to "proper" value. I'm not a collector, not a racer, but I also don't own a "name" Italian bike either (my bikes are named Schwinn and Dawes :D ), so, if the price is right and it fits my size (I need a 58cm), I'd be willing to get it. Thanks for your help!

There is a 2nd picture which I am adding, but I don't know if it provides much additonal information.

The only thing that I can pick out for sure is the simplex prestige shifters - they were always paired with the derailleurs, and weren't anything to write home about. The price point for this bike would have been Raleigh Gran Prix or Record. Something I've often wanted to say, but never found the proper time or place, though: "Nice Rack!"

The new pic does indicate that it has a cotterless crankset, which is a bonus, but curiously it appears to retain the boom era, half-step chainrings. The crankset is proabably an upgrade, but may also indicate a late 1970s model.

I bought this same bike for $15 bucks. Granted, it wasn't in as nice shape, but there you have it.

100 USD is too expensive. If you have a good heart and are willing to spend a bit of money, I would say $50.

Ah well, it was already sold when I called this morning. Couldn't get how much it went for. Thanks for your help and maybe next time.
