Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I like the obscure, all speed skating, biathlon, luge and skeleton, ski jump, nordic racing.
Wonder if Apollo Ono will be back in speed skating, he was fun last time!
Anything you like or dislike?

I like downhill (giant slalom and super g) skiing, ski jumping and speed skating. Apolo Ohno should be back, but I think there is still qualifying to come:

Ski jumping is fun but seeing them 'flying' at that altitude makes my stomach churn sometimes. Looks like you gotta be really brave to try it.
Favourite disciplines: men's alpine (downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super-G), biathlon, bobsleigh and nordic.
I also watch speed skating, pairs figure skating and freestyle skiing.
In short, I'm gonna be spending a lot more time in front of the TV than normal.
Whoo hoo, just a few more weeks till Torino, 2006!! :D

Oh yeah, peregrine, bobsled and luge are fun to watch, too :)
I do admit to watching figure skating, but only if the matchup is good or if there is a little bit of drama. I think the judging has been a bit biased at times.
I like watching women's hockey and figure skating.

None. I don't like the olympics.

Bobsled (which is also on the SPEED Channel now apparently), luge (but somone needs to explain the necessity of the two man event to me), ice hockey, and the greatest sport of them all.........CURLING!(There's a reason why MSNBC showed it on all but 2 days in 2002, and I heard that the US women are ranked #1 right now)

Both the men's and women's Downhill.
One run. Fastest one wins. So pure, so insane.
I always think of Bill Johnson's wreckless Gold Medal run at Sarajevo in 1984. Anything can happen in that one single run.

Bobsled (which is also on the SPEED Channel now apparently),
Bobsled's on SPEED probably because it has design ties to NASCAR. One of the Bodine brothers (I think it's Geoffrey) helps do the design and wind-tunnel testing on some of the sleds.
Still... anything that's not actually motor-based on SPEED is a little victory, right?

Alright, I think it's time to bump up this thread :D
Anybody know if any TV channel is going to broadcast the complete events and not just the parts when US athletes compete? I've noticed that happen before.
Anyone watch the opening ceremony? I really liked the part when a bunch of people arranged themselves into a huge ski jumper and simulated a ski jump. I thought it was pretty cool.
I saw the ski jumper, it was sweet! I like seeing the athletes march in, all the different cultures and youthful excitement. The guys on skates with the fire tanks were a let down, seemed hokey.
I'll watch whatever. Can't be too picky when one has limited TV hours and no recording devices.

I'm not betting on the womens team. They lost to a boys high school team this year.

Name my game. I got to go with Speed Skating or Hockey. That’s my bias opinion. I went to 1980 Olympics to watch Eric Heiden and the USA men’s hockey team in action.

Slalom looks fun. The openeing cermony was incredable! Especially how they formed the skiier guy aerial skiing out of people! Coolness.
I like any event that has objective scoring. Fastest, longest, most accurate etc. Subjective compitition stinks, way too political for my liking.
I like the one with the alpine snipers.

Mmmmmmmm Alpine Snipers
Reminds me of UT
Headshot! Headshot! Multi-Kill! MM-Mm--Monster Kill!
I only watch TV when I'm with other people and due to visiting my parents infrequently I'm now an HDTV ***** and will not watch anything less

Those Nordic countries must not have rednecks. All heck would break out here if we let people run around on cross-country skiis and pop off a few rounds at some target of opportunity. Throw in alcohol, and you'd have full scale chaos.
Seriously though, I don't get the point of the biathlon - like I don't get the point of the "modern pentathalon" in the summer games. Heck, shouldn't we replace fencing with text messaging? Or let's combine luge with bowling, or figure skating and checkers! It would make about as little sense.

Hey you watch it there, I have Nordic blood in me.
I've always thought Fencing was one of those French sports. Not sure why i think that.

Sorry :o
I think the gold medal will be a toss up between the Canadian women’s and the Sweden women’s team.
As for the mens hockey USA or Canada fight for the gold.

I like the biathalon, ski jumping(would never do it, tho-was that clip jumping or just downhill that used to run in the intro to Wide World Of Sports? Jeez, that looked painful!), speedskating and bobsledding. Probably only see highlights, but those are the four I'd be watching, I think.

It may seem an odd mix, but biathalon combines two very opposite physiological activities, which makes it pretty interesting to consider. One, there is the straight up cardio activity of cross country skiing. That's pretty easy to see as sport. Two, the hand/eye coordination and intense concentration of rifle shooting. The way biathaletes are able to go from a world class level of aerobic activity to something that requires them to concentrate while being still is fairly impressive.
One good thing about the sport is that it is objective. You get your time it takes to complete the course plus certain added time values for missing a target. There's no nationalistic judge to put in a grudge score when some hated country's athlete takes the ice or snow (Yeah, I'm looking at you figure skating! You, too, ski jumping and half-pipe and all the other sports where a human judging element is involved!!)

Fairly impressive? I think Very very impressive, these folks can feel their heart beat and fire between heartbeats. They also hold their breath between shots.
Try that after a long hill climb?

Figure skating. That's about it. I'm not a fan of doing stuff in the cold on purpose.

Really? Try cycling harder! ;) That, or I need to get in better shape. I can be huffing and puffing after a three mile commute. :o
I wonder if any of the luge or skeleton people have helmet cams. That would be cool.

OK then, that makes sense - yes - a double.
Men's and Ladies, thought the score in the ladies game right now is lower than I thought it would be.
Has me a bit concerned especially since goals for and against matters in the medal rounds.

I went out for a spin. It was blowing really badly so I decided to head into San Antonio instead of out. Really the only way to really make me out of breath and stay out of breath is with cold wind. There was quite a bit of it but it was a gooood ride :D
classic telemark (soon peeps, very soon)
alpine moguls
freestyle snowboard
speed skating, it's raw power at it's best. And what other sport
could bring us (cycling) Eric Heiden, Connie Carpenter et al. ?
Curling? when I was in South Africa for the 98 games they showed
continuous live coverage of the curling which I thought was hysterical.
what the hell does south africa care about curling? Then they repeated it
2x each day! Found out they bought their olympic feeds from Cananda
so, curling!
my best memory of curling? "Its a thingy, its a fiendish thingy"

figure skating and speed skating are about the only thing interesting. I have never really been a fan of the winter olympics. The summers ones are so much more interesting
Luge, ski jump and bobsledding and probably some skiing. Thats all I want to see.

I love ski jump! Bobsled, luge, skeleton, hockey, speed skating, biathalon, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, moguls, the one with the brooms and the big rock with a handle ...hell i love it all

luge and nordic events us and norway to win
i think golf and mtn biking would go good together, close to the biathalon, it would bring more excitement to golf as well
