Commuting - 1st Flat

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Had my first flat on the way to work on my new frame. I have a Rohloff hub and was worried it was going to be a bear to deal with. I was wrong to fret, one extra nut to deal with was all. It took much longer getting the tire on and off the rim than un-nutting the hub.
I did not carry my cell phone with me today and figured hanging the shot tube around my neck would be a good visual aid for why I did not call and warn anyone that I was going to be late. My boss was so astounded that one could actually change a tire on the side of the road on a bicycle I end up all but changing it again showing him how it is done. He gets a big kick out of showing off what he calls "my hippie's bike" when he's trying to impress a client that he thinks is not a republican.

Heh, nicely done. Changing a late arrival to work into a Boss-impressing moment... brilliant!

Nice. I've had 3 flats in the past month, myself. I'm getting pretty good at changing the tubes, seeing as how much practice I've had  I can have the tire off the fork, tube changed and back on again in appx 10 mins. Now I just need to replace my broken pos air pump.

That's why I always left 15 mins early. I can get to work on time even with a flat, and otherwise I have a little cool off time.

With tuffy liners in both tires and a kevlar belted rear tire, I haven't had a flat in so long I don't worry about it. I'm also not that fast at fixing flats, owing to lack of practice.
