I had an accident on the way in to work today.

It was a wee bit icy but I thought was ok, then I hit a patch of black ice at a junction and went down like a sack of spuds on my right side.

Not one motorist stopped to help as I lay trying to undo my foot from my pedal! They drove around me!

Just grazes, but I hit my arm so hard at the time that I called my wife and she picked me and the bike up in the car. Hopefully no damage to the bike(it was dark and the bike is black) as the bars and panniers took most of it. I hope so anyway, it's only been on the road for 2 weeks after it's refurbishment.

Boo hoo!

Ouch! Hope your arm and bike are OK!

Living here in subtropical New Orleans the most amazing part of this story is that you have to contend with ICE in OCTOBER! We seldom get below freezing at all, much less have ice on the street, except during our once per decade freak snowfall. New Orleans is not exactly a bicycle-friendly city, but when I think about what some of you guys have to endure in winter I count my blessings.

Chewa - Hope you and the bike are all right.

It's was just about freezing here on the South Coast. Enough to get me thinking about the cold weather kit. I can just imagine what it is like 400 miles North (being a Glaswegian ;) )

Hang in there. Hope you and the bike are okay. Just starting to get some winter weather here in Massachusetts, snow and freezing rain yesterday.

chewa, get well !!!

I sure am glad I'm in San Jose !!! All summer long I wondered what it'd be like for you cold climate folks at this time and year and through the winter. Now I'm getting an idea.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Now feeling very sore and stiff, but Sandra says the bike looks ok, Scuffed bar tape and bit of mark on the derailleur.

I'll check when I get home.

My ankle is grazed but not sore, since I destroyed most of the nerves in it in a motorbike crash 4 years ago. Every cloud etc...

Glad your injuries were minor.

I keep hearing rumours of a return to warmer weather for a few weeks but I'm giving up hope.

Take care

Chewa, sorry to hear about your crash; glad you're not seriously hurt. It's been getting below freezing here recently, so your post reminded me that I should be very careful riding to work.

When I had my crash a few weeks back, all the motorists just rode right by me too... They're in their own little world.

Hope you're back on the bike soon.

Take care,
Tim

Take care of yourself, I reccomend not minimizing any injuries. A buddy of mine bit it on RR tracks last spring and rode on home not thinking much of it. Ended up he had broken his elbow and had to have it screwed and wired back together.

Not to scare you or anything, just make sure you are in working order before the ride home.

Swift healing and good luck

Oso

Hi Chewa, glad to hear it wasn't any worse, but check yourself AND your bike over carefully before you ride it again. Keep us posted!

Chewa,

Best wishes, and hopefully you'll recover quickly. 'Sounds like the injuries are not bad. Try to get the dirt and rocks out of the road rash, if you've got it, early, so they don't become part of you. I didn't, and now have a patch of darker skin beside my right eye.

Again, heal fast,

John
