View Full Version : Why race on xc skis when we can race ice bikes?
I just don't get it. First bike race in March, last race of the season early Oct. That's 6 months of no bike racing!

I don't get it either, when I try to get others to ride in the snow or the frozen lakes with studded tires, most don't seem to even understand what I am saying. But in the spring I drop them on the first hill because I have been riding in deep snow !! They seem to understand that OK.
Start an ice racing club!

The OCP potential in XC racing is huge!
The other alternative is Nordic skating. I rented a pair the other day, freaked out the kids on hockey skates. Those things glide!

This is true, but I think it freaks out the kids more when you ride your bike around them on the ice rink. :)

One of the unofficial winter biathalons is biking to the xc ski trail or the backcountry, skiing, then returning by bike.
I'm working getting the LHT turned into a spring ski touring machine where I haul my skis to the North cascades to ski and camp on a bike tour- pictures in the spring!

Why not do it all.
The Winter Mountain Bike Race Series (http://www.melanzana.com/index.htm?leadville-polyester-fleece-links.htm~mainFrame) starts in Leadville 01/28 along with a dog team skijor and some fun XC skate and classic races.

I guess if you look hard enough there is plenty of racing in the winter. There were a few cyclocross races near me in December.
Indoor MTB race in St. Paul coming this Feb.

Because it's a HELL of a lot of fun !!
No way you can go that fast on a bike in February.
So, you like to drop and pass people? It doesn't get any better than passing 100 or more guys in the Birkie!!
:p
Biking is cool, and a great sport, but skiing beats it hands down on the white stuff.

Here you go folks..... the cure to you're 'no racing til spring' blues.

BTW I'd love to do the Iditabike (short) even if just to get a floatie built up for snow and sand racing ...have you seen those rims?

Right! :) I learned how to skate ski this year. It's fast, but I still have plenty of guys double pole right by me.

just kicked down and completed a winter biathalon today- cross country skied in the morning, a bike ride in the afternoon.
Wood skis and knickers. :)
