Mountain Biking - Tire mounting question.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am doing some repairs on a friend of mines mountain bike. I don't have a ton of experience with mtn bikes, but this is seeming weird.
He wanted me to mount a set of 1.25 in slick tires. The rear mounted fine, but the front won't sit properly. I have had this happen with road tires before but they always even out when inflated to 110psi or so. Is this a common problem when mounting mtn bike tires? If not, what can Ido to fix this?

is what specifically a common problem?? the bead seating?? if the bead ridge is not uniform around the rim edge after high pressure/deflating/pressurizing again, then you can lube the bead seat surface with mild soapy water while deflated and pressurize again...this should really get it to seat uniformly.
oh yeah, don't be afraid to use high pressure similar to your road tire mentioned above for purposes of seating....then reduce pressure for riding
