Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 135mm fixed hubs?

so i'm not looking to built a track monster or anything, but i am looking to get a 2nd wheelset for my conversion... i've been looking around and wondering, other than Surly, does anyone make a 135mm rear hub?

i'm pretty sure IRO doesn't, suzue doesn't either, though both say they can go to 130 with spacing, Phil makes one that says it's 130... phil also says it makes a MTB hub that is 135, with a 52mm chainline... i don't really need a MTB hub though... and i have no idea what my chainline is (should go measure that)

would 130 work? i know steel frames will take a little bending, but i don't want to put too much strain on it...

IRO, [both their fix free MTB hub, or space a track hub out to 135], Surly, or Kogswell.

Or use any hub, and re-space it to 135.

have to make sure that the axle is long enough if you are planning to respace.

IRO track hubs come stock with a 180mm solid axle.

But yea, if you chose to respace any other track hubs, you will probably have to replace the axle. replace to respace!

I would go with the Kogswell. He is an active poster here and an all around good guy. A buddy of mine ordered them for his conversion and loves them. I built them up for him and they were good solid hubs.

they are definitely solid ****ing hubs. i second that. i have a rear in 120.

anyone know where to get kogswells other than harris (they are out) and kogswell's site? googled but got nothing. oh and does kogswell have a matching front hub? harris seemed to have a "set" (or did) but didn't see any front hubs on the kogswell site

...i guess these are questions i could just ask him...

order from kogswell. they do not make fronts currently, but did. apparently they did not sell particularly well.

any recommendations on a nice matching front? i.e. similar flange style/diameter, polished, etc

If the words "respacing" and "new axle" are chilling for you, you can get them from IRO for sure. Dunno as hubsets or loose hubs though.

I just bought a complete fixed/fixed 26" complete wheel with an Aeroheat from IRO. I tried to go Kogswell and he referred me to Tony at IRO - they're out of them, or were in November. Cost me $110 shipped to NJ in two days.

I don't know if that means the IRO 135mm fixed hubs are identical to the Kogswells, are Kogswells, or Matthew was just plugging IRO, but they look very similar to the 120 hubs - burly locknuts and nice track nuts. The flange finish isn't as nice and there's no logo on the hub, but that's a moot point for me.

I haven't ridden it yet as I can't get the damn tensioner off the bike it's going to go on, and my usual shop is closed until next week.

The IRO 135s are Kogswells without the name.

Tony has them in stock and so does HubJub in England.

We have some 120s left.

I think they're nice. No one complains.

We're reordering and will have 100(front), 120 and 135 all in 36 holes, hubs and wheels built w/ Kinlin rims.

I believe on_one has 135 hubs, as their il-pompino track frame has 135 spacing ( at least for 2005) But I would go for kogswell. Always support small businesses: even if they are built in Taiwan. But Phils........

I fit a 130 road hub in my 135 mountain bike no problems. So it might work just getting a 130.

The On Ones, Van Dessels and Kogswell 135s are all the same hub. The difference is that I didn't like the stock setup (whimpy locknuts, allen key bolts, freewheel thread on one side). So I pleaded with the factory to fix that stuff and after 18 months of pleading, they did. I think it makes them a much better hub. Then Tony came along and he wanted a 135 for his Highlander so they sold some to him but it's my mods.

And we don't support small businesses either. Just the opposite. We sell direct. DELIBERATELY. Because if you do support bike shops then you have either charge twice as much for stuff -or- cut the quality in half. Bike shops want 100% markup. So we limp along selling direct and our stuff is twice as good for the money.

And what's wrong with Taiwan?

There's a reason we've let our front hub stock run out: we've been looking for a dyno front hub to replace it.

But the wheels of progress move slowly some times. And I'd rather wait for something that is TOP quality to come along rather than be a KRAP MONGER.

Now the wheels of progress have turned and there is a good dyno hub available.

For road use (as opposed to track use) I don't see any reason not to have a dyno.

Nothing fancy, just solid: quick release, 36 holes, 6 Volts, 3 Watts.

Still looking for decent lights. Until then the Lumotec with a 3 Watt bulb works. The Lumotec Plus N model is nice because it has a built-in standby LED that blinks when the dyno is not rolling, like at stop lights, etc.

you can get paul's track hub in a 135 also.

I have a Van Dessel FlipFlop 135 hub...I'm looking to get rid of it actually. It's brand new. PM me if interested.

Nothing wrong with Taiwan at all. There QA and machinery standards are better than the US at every single pricepoint.

I don't think the 135mm On-one double fixed hubs are the same as the Kogswell and IRO. On-one lists a different chainline than both Kogswell and Iro, so it can not be the same.

can dynohubs be used in this way i've been wanting to do for a while?:

powering a string of christmas lights strung on a frame.

It's on that chart up there, but I don't think anyone has mentioned it - White Industries ENO.

That hub doesn't have a 52mm chainline. Call them (on-one) and ask them yourself. They'll tell you it isn't 52mm. You may run into some issues with some cranksets out there unless you upgrade to a non-standard BB that will accomodate that hub.
