I have a Nokian W106 tire in the rear. This tire has the studs place in the center of the tread. I have a Nokian W160 on the front. The studs on these tires are placed out at either side. I knew this buying them and purposefully placed the 106 at the rear to prevent slippage while going uphill. I put the 160 on the front to prevent tire washout while leaning or slow turns.
Compared to the 160, the studs on the 106 to be set in further on the tread. Does anybody else have both these tires to tell me if both seem to be set in at the same depth?

If you ride for a while the studs that hit the pavement directly will get pushed into the tire more. That's life. In fact with a lot of mileage the studs on the drive side (the chain side) will go in a litttle more, just reverse the tire. This is a good reason to always get identicall tires, you can rotate them and get more for your money.
