Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Anyone interested in starting some fixed gear races in CINCINNATI / NORTHERN KENTUCKY similar to the program that the Richmond Sprint Club has put together?
Problem is that there are very few fixed gears here. I've only seen a few anyway. I'd be interested but I'm without a doubt, not a racer. It'd be nice to just get a ride together in my opinion.
Maybe Doctor Who will chime in on this one.

I'd come ride, but you couldn't call me a racer.

man riding around campus/ludlow must be doom on a fix. those hills are SF caliber.
Indeed it takes fortitude. That's right FORTITUDE. Ah who am I kidding, I ride the roadie when in the hills. I ride the fix a lot when going out in the summer but when I have a mile long climb on the way back I use the bus racks.
I definitely think I ride should be planned, but perhaps maybe not for only fixed gears.

There's a stretch of road off of 71/75 going south towards the airport that is along yet undeveloped land. I see cross country runners out there in the field and bikers alot on the road. Looks like a good spot for an out and back sprint race. Check out the richmond web page. Nothing fancy, just folks wanting to have a go at it. I think there are more fix heads here than you think. Lunken air field park, places like that. I'll set up an email address, you guys can hit me and we'll see if we get a ride going first.

what about the river road that goes from the stadiium out towards annie's? that seems like it'd be pretty dead at night unless annie's had a show.

Someone might want to PM Keevohn about this. He's in Cinci.
Scribble jam? Man, I haven't been there in a few. I used to skate with the the guy that does that I think.
find a crit course, we raced around a cemetary until they kicked us out last summer. We found a couple of industrial areas with warehouses etc that are shut down on Sundays when we race so that could be an option, or a park. Basically you want to stay out of traffic and out of the eye of cops. Also, find some steep assed hills for hill climbs. TTs can be run in parks or long stretches of roads in suburbia. We have also done point to point races with no designated course just check points. Definately have a leader/organizer if you want to run a points series like sprint club does. And def check out the www.sprintclubrva.org website for more ideas. Yeah so good luck and get that **** started...

Hey, I just saw this.
I think we're going to try to set up another alleycat race in a month or so. Check here for updates.
http://www.flyingpigcourier.com/Alleycat.htm
But yeah, if you're looking for information, fixed-gear rides, etc., then I'd definitely check out Campus Cyclery in Clifton. Brian rides fixed and is such a solid dude.
Anyway, I ride almost every day, mostly on my fixed Lemond (at least until the Spring USCF races start). If you're ever down for some riding, I get off work by 3:30 and I head out soon afterwards, weather permitting. If you're down to get some miles in, then let me know. PM me through the forum, or just keep on bumping this thread until everyone in Chi-Town gets chapped at us Cincinnatians. ;)
I'm gonna see if I persuade the guys from Campus to have another alleycat race. The first one went off without a hitch and fun was had by all. You shoulda come.. :)

Maybe I'll come ride when I'm in Cinci. I live 3 hours east of you guys in Athens.
My attendance at that was thwarted! It would be nice to get some stuff rolling here.

mr. dibbs?
I've met Dibbs before, I think. I was talking about Fat Rob though...I used to run into the scrub club a lot back in my skating days.
I had no idea there was a Cincy alley cat before, so publicity must have been pretty limited. I'm up at school in Oxford, so I doubt I'd come down to ride unless it was for an event. Dr. Who (Mark?), I'll be at the USCF race you're hosting at Hueston Woods. See you there.

Nah, my name is Zach Thomas - I just roll with the Campus guys alot. I'm going up there tonight, as I gotta get sized for a new bike.
12XU - I'm presuming you like Wire. Do you have those live CD/DVD packages, one from 1979 (after Chairs Missing) and another from their "comeback" tour? If so, get them. Wire is about my favorite band - right behind Medicine and MBV. I'll be at the Hueston Woods race, but I'll be racing it as Cat. 4.

Sweet, Cinci races! I've been riding fixed here for three years, but never with a dedicated fixed gear group. Races or just organized rides would be excellent.
Here's a list of fixers I know of in Cinci:
Keevohn (forums)
Doctor Who (forums)
MKRG (forums)
12XU (forums)
nomadaselk (forums)
staticguy (forums)
Brian (Campus Cyclery)
Rob (DAAP kid, rides a Langster)
Dan (DAAP kid)
Lil' Jon
Mark (Campus Cyclery/Flying
I can update this list as more people chime in. As for rides... how about Spring Grove cemetary?

BTW -
12XU: do you work at BikeWise in Oxford? If so, I'm the guy that bought those Royal Gran Compe brakes last week.
Springrove is kinda hilly and doesn't have the best pavement. We could just start a group going out of Northside Tavern or something? I know it's in my top 5 worthwhile places to drink and ride. I'm sidelined right now by the way.

There's a few more, I think. I know Lil' Jon is always done for terrorizing, as is Mark from Campus.
BTW... is that your Surly that's been hanging out in the shop for the past week or so?

MKRG - Northside Tavern sounds good. Dan (DAAP) lives in that area, and I imagine it'd be accessible to most people.
Doc - Yeah, that's my Surly. It was in while Brian fiddled with a new Miche BB... hopefully some Loctite fixed the problem.
I'm sure I've seen a few of you scenesters down there. Wait, would that would make me a scenester?

Around November or so. The director of the place resigned and instead of finding someone to take his place, everyone decided to quit. Weird, but for some reason, I don't blame them. The Mockbee was almost always in shambles and too many hipsters made a habit of going down there and trashing the place and peoples' art. But, now there's Junior art gallery which is across the street from the Mockbee and they're carrying the torch, so to speak. They've had some sweet shows and parties and they're all down with the PR kids, so bands play there occasionally.
Tonight they're doing a 24 hour showing of the entire Twin Peaks series. Pretentious of course, but I have nothing else to do, so I might go down and watch an hour or so and see some friends. It's too cold to ride around and my g/f is working.
God, I'm lame.

Valentine's Day Alleycat Race.
I'll be there. No racing, as I'm still having knee issues. It'd be good to meet some of you people though.

I would come down for that and I am sure I could get my roommate to come along cause he is from covington, but the 2nd to last stage of the tour Da Chicago is that sunday. Sorry, maybe next time. Make sure you post that in the alleycat thread. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=100308&page=13&pp=25)

I know Brian and Glenn from Campus Cyclery. When you see them say "hi" for me. They will remember me because I ride a purple and blue Aegis Swift and Glenn thinks I talk too much.
Glenn ordered the Aegis and built it up for me and did a lot of work on my other bikes. I could always depend on them to get the components I needed and very good service.

oh my beloved Cincinnati. My home. i thought that cincy never had any sort of messenger scene or even a fixed scene. let alone ally cats. i must know when the next on is so i can schlep my ass back home for a race. i've never actually experienced the hills on a road bike. those hills are ****in gnar.
p.s. those willing to travel to chicago: this spring/summer, my roommate is going to try to put together a "No NOS 1/4 Mile" drag race. 1 speed, and about a 1/4 mile. who's down?

Valentine's Day Alleycat Race.
Sunday, Feb. 12 - $5
EVERYONE should come out to this. Even if you're not racing, they could probably use volunteers at the checkpoints.
It'll be a blast: Mark puts on a good show, and wore his helmet videocam last time.
Here are the checkpoints:
http://www.flyingpigcourier.com/images/VDAlleycat06/overview.jpg
And if you use Google Earth, here's a .kmz file of all the points:
http://www.flyingpigcourier.com/images/VDAlleycat06/VD%20Alleycat.kmz
google earth says it should be around 20 miles.
