the only thing that could make my life better would be a tv on my handle bars while doing endless track stands

when i had cable, let alone tv (well, have it, but i've watched maybe 3 hours in six months), those things owned me, and i learned stuff, and it was cool. mythbusters is badass. there was something up here a bit ago about them and a singlespeed. what was it?

During some experiment Tory attemted to jump a wagon on an old single speed crusier and crushed his face into the concrete.

Somewhere on your remote control, there's a button marked "power". On mine, it's red and in the upper left corner. Press this button and release. Put on your cycling clothes. Go for a ride.
Of course, I had to give up cable because it was eating my life. After that, the above instructions became much easier.

history channel? i think you are confusing it with the wwii special features channel.
and yes, another point for mythbusters. i continue to watch that show even i have seen the episode three times before. it's like mr wizard of the 21st century. maybe they can bust the myth that riding brakeless is way more street?
Though entertaining, Mythbusters is not quite as scientifically valid as you may have been led to believe. Just saying...

I used to have that problem as well. When I had mono and a 102/3 fever and couldn't swallow I watched like 9 hours of the civil war battle by battle cause I couldn't leave the couch. The history channel has gone way downhill in the last few years though starting around 2000 when they started running only conservative ads. Since then the programming hasn't had the same allure. PS: that dude definitely hurt so bad the next day.
the hitler channel rules until you've actually taken some history and realize that most of what they report is at least somewhat wrong.
No cable = very little tv watching.

I was pretty pumped about the History Channel when I first heard about it, then I watched it enough to realize all they show is mostly WWII crap. I wish they'd show more international stuff, from more diverse time periods, get rid of all that "Bible Code" and conspiracy theory nonsense they show, and cut it out with the obvious pandering to Right wing lunatics. I was over a friends house who had satellite TV and History International was actually pretty good, though.

most history is. even with eyewitness reports, accounts will differ. so "a people's history of the united states" and the most conservative history you can find will probably both be equally true, even if completely opposite in most places.

yes...i have a tv, but it's been in storage for a month, and before that i barely watched any for about 6 months. but when i had cable...food tv, discovery, history channel, travel channel, tlc, comedy central, tcm...as much as i hate the act of just sitting and watching tv...man, there IS some good stuff if you want to pay extra for the cable (i don't).
oh, and add spongebob squarepants to that list.

i have a tv, it's in the closet and unplugged and hasn't been out in 6 months.
if i take it out i turn into a nova/nature/nature documentary zombie.
books are more fun anyway.

I just watch sports. the rest is pure fiction. Like Fox News, CNN, every local news show. Although I do miss Comedy Central and the Cartoon Network and PBS and Discovery and arrrarrrarrrarrarrar

Amen to that! Obviously TV can rot your brain and if you are really unlucky and you let it, it can even turn you into a fat cager. However, it can also be extremely entertaining. But i am also of two minds on Disc, Nat. Geo, History Channel etc etc. It seems like half their programs are interesting or fun the rest tripe that sortoff glorifies polluting vehicles, Warfare, pushes fear and fobias etc etc. With Titles like 'Ultimate Weapons!!' 'Or Shark Attack!' etc etc. i sometimes am tempted to hatch evil conspiracy theories concerning these channels. But instead i usually just switch it of or flip the channel.
Say what about a totally different program, 'BRAT CAMP'. Anyone know that show? What do you guys think about it, i found it pretty fascinating stuff...
I have the same problem of watching the history channel and the discovery channel but then there is boring times and I do nothing.

It's not so much false history as it is American propaganda. Y'know, sorta like American History class when we were kids...
With that said, my favorite thing to watch is the view from my window...Great view of the city, that's why I bought this place.

TV sucks. Complete waste of time. But...if your going to watch something, the History Channel rocks! It is a good thing I wont pay for cable.

I got rid of cable at home and never watch TV.
However, at work, we have cable and I sit and surf endlessly.
What a waste of time.
I can't stop; except when I get on my Internet forums.
The History Channel has mixed quality.
Sometimes they tell the audience whatever will keep the audience listening.
Kinda like network news.
They have done the Battle of Hastings, 1066, several times, and told a different story each time.
I have a friend who respectfully disagrees with my interpretation of the Battle of Hastings, and I have thought about producing my own version for the History Channel, sort of as a Siskel and Hebert type of thing, where we each discuss and debat our own respective interpretations and let the viewer decide.

My kids auotmatically put the History Channel on when I come home from work. I guess I'm hooked.

You mean history books?
not quite. i mean, the same information is there, but the presentation isn't the same. you know, the way sound and visuals are presented to illustrate things while narration gives you information, or other such arrangements of those media.
I haven't really had a tv for 9 years, so when I'm around one it's hard not to watch. I was housesitting last week for a guy with a 64" TV and 300 channels...I probably watched for more hours last week than in the last 9 years together. Scary.
Yeah i have noticed the same effect, some people i know that have given up on their TV (don't own one) altogether seem to be zombified when they drop by and mine is on. Very scary.
