Mountain Biking - Site running slow?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Man the performance of this site is slow, well on my computer anyway. Who else is having problems?
Thanks

Its running really slow for me too. I said the same thing in one of my other threads, and Raiyn suggested that Regina was freezing over, that why it's so slow!

WAHOOO! I'm not the only one!
me tooo, but it has always been the slowest site of every site I go to...I think if the owner would get a new host/server and fix the problems this site has, more people would join and help out moneywise...it's a shame this is one of the best sites around
There is around 1500 users online all the time... I'm not sure about the daily upload/download, but I guess it would require some very large bandwidth, and a powerful server.

I noticed that around noon it was running pretty slow. I'm on >1mbps connection here so it wasn't that--all other tabs were running rather quickly. I imagine it was a burst of activity. It's sped up since, but still sluggish compared to normal.

Whoa! Hold on, cowboy! This site is not usually this slow, first of all. Second, you can't just snap your fingers and say "Bing! New Server!". Also, these things cost money. All of the mods volunteer their time, nobody pays them. So how do you think this site gets supported? Sure they may have a little outside help from wherever, but if you look at who is logged on, you can see the lack of red stars. This site is FREE to users. Users who get very valuable information and help. Money saving information. This is all shared by other members. Do you think that you can gain this much information from anywhere else for FREE?
I'm a contributing member because of the wealth of information I obtained here. I have saved more than what I paid using the info I learned from such knowledgeable members.
I'm sure the mods are doing the best they can to fix the problem. We're lucky to even have this site. So what if it's slow just for a few days. Hang in there, it will be better. Or you can help by donating. So far on this thread I'm the only red star here.
Seriously this site has been slow since day 1 for me. What do you expect with the number of members and the very large amount of posts. Its not like the site has unlimited bandwidth.

Joe actually shelled out for a brand new, top of the line Dell poweredge server within the last 2 years, if I remember right. You'd be amazed how much this site has grown in the 3-1/2 years since I joined (I remember people making a big deal when there were 75 people online at the same time). In order to effectively increase the capacity further, I think the next option up is to load share off multiple servers, and that can get complicated. Somebody said there's as many as 1500 people online at a time here now. Combine that with the typically heavy load of a CMS like VBthread and you're asking for a huge tax on processing power and bandwidth. I'd be interested to see sometime if Joe would post a graph of the processor load and bandwidth usage for the past week.
I thought it was running slow because I was always logged in, but after signing in and out numerous times making no difference I figured that the cause is a very high amount of people using the thing.

good job to all the moderators and web dudes here. you do an excellent job. this is a great site
Why is it slow now? Always been lightning fast.
Considering the amount of traffic on this forum, its actually very fast.
That said. Its been the same for me all day today. Both at home and here at work.

It's 12:45 on a Saturday. I'll bet it gets significantly higher than that on weekday nights. Right now it's running at a fine speed for me. The world won't end if it takes an extra two seconds for to read the next rant about girlfriends/school/parents/kids/SUVs in Foo.
