Hey, I am a high school student and our school is having all the seniors do a senior project type thing, and i have chosen to build and learn how to ride a road bike, and how to train for a race. what my question is... what type of training is required for a beginner like me? like i said, i am completely new to this. i am a runner, so i am in good shape to take intense workouts. Thanks.

any suggestions? please? i really need help with this.. thanks.
Damn, sounds like a fun project!
On the training side, I'd start off by reading books by cycling coaches - probably Joe Friel's Training Bible maybe a Carmichael book. That will give you some insight into the techniques used.
Well, that's a bit of a lie - i'd actually start off by just riding while I read those books. At first, you can get a lot of improvement simply by riding a lot. Have fun buzzing around on the bike. Get your butt used to the seat and your body used to the position. Making sure you've got a good fit is important.
There are some training articles at http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/, and at http://www.cyclingnews.com/, and http://www.cyclecoach.com/ (site of one of the coaches who posts (actually operates) cyclingforums.com)
