thought these were kind of interesting...until i saw that it's a 1 piece deal
the opening line is classic, though

does it come with a white belt? (http://cgi.ebay.com/SUGINO-52-CRANKSET-170mm-FIXED-GEAR-TRACK-BIKE_W0QQitemZ7211231157QQcategoryZ56195QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I'm not following the hipster part. If you buy it you will own a crank set.

a fairly impractical one at that. unless you are a monster or have a very large cog.

the opening line "nothing says..." implies that by buying it, despite the fact that the item is not very practical (when the ring goesm the crankset goes), i will automatically appear to be far cooler than i was before i bought it

maybe i'm just reading too much into it.

hipster bs aside, I bet that that crank takes a very long bb spindle. make sure that you can make your chainline work with it before you buy it. And dont buy it for more than you would pay for a chainring.

didn't mean to give the wrong impression....i'm not buying it, i jsut thought the item and description were funny enough to share with everybody

what makes you think the bb spindle would be long?

^^^Because in my experience, old suginio cranks take long bb's. it has to do with the fact that the spider is "below" the bb interface.

my friend has a 52/16 and it is not really all that high of a gear in my opinion.

I like big chain rings and cogs, and presently ride a 53X19 setup.
I intuit it as mechanically more efficient for reasons that escape me.
I intend to go to 53X18 when the weather gets a little better.

Still, I like that crankset for retro-aesthetic reasons, as impractical as it seems.
But then, someone on this forum once describe me as the "King of the Hipsters;" so case and point made. :)

Yes, I am riding the same ratio... and have a very similar crankset to the one in the auction.. it was on my nishiki before I converted it. Though mine says "custom" on one crank arm and sugino on the other, and has slightly different cutouts in the ring.

That crank is sooo nice. Only worry could be the ring/arm attachment. The chainring could loosen if used on the street. But, being a Sugino, it should be well made, right? Otherwise, just pick a big cog and you're golden.

I have an old raleigh crank like that on my SS. I ride 52/16 and it's a little slow starting out, but hot damn i have a high top end.

i have a schwinn with that chainring...not a fixie, though. i'm not sure i'd keep it for that. maybe for ss...i dunno.

jesus. it's 170. it's a road crankset. not special....unless you get a hard on about your newfound inability to swap chainrings.

i'm still finding rice in the bottom of my bag. yeah, it was that 2lb of bulk brown rice from a week ago.

what really sucks is when i pull my work clothes out of my bag, my socks and underware have rice in them. it's just not cool.

sorry, i bought 2lb of bulk rice in one of those flimsy clear bulk bags. it tore in my bag, leaving freaking 2lb of rice just in my bag. it sucks. worse than spilling beer, really, since beer would eventually dry out.
