You guys might have heard about SS mountain bikes so I got to wondering, maybe there are a few roadies out there who would give up their gears for simplicity.

There are, except we go for fixed gear bikes instead. Even simpler.

I have toured on singe speeds several times. The longest was when I toured for four days in China on a 28" wheel single speed.

Other times, I have toured on 1960's vintage 26" wheel steel bikes.

Hey, they are bikes. Single speeds work too.

I tried SS but I got sick of coasting. Fixed gear cycling really improved my strength and my spin. When I got back to my geared bike, I felt like a punk for using the 23 cog.

I've been riding my fixie for about five weeks and I feel stronger and fitter than I have in a lo-ong time. I take mine out on the roads and ride it on the trainer in the wee hours of the morning.

I love it and am having more fun on this bike than I've probably ever had before.

I wonder if I can race on it next season...

:)

In time trials, yes, but fixed gears are illegal in mass start events.

I love fixe gear riding and MUST find time to finish my new trash-pile-Trek fixed gear project.

Rainman,

I thought the Rainbabe nixed the Trek?
I knew that was too good a frame for you to
just toss it. So, how many bikes now?

and btw, that pic is an oxymoron, since bush dosen't think at all(despite that superficial ideaology that he's actually running the joint here in the usa), whomever that insult is directed to, can't be an actual idiot, kinda like a double negative.
