Any other bluegrass fans and players around? I play with my family( everyone picks) and spent some time on the road getting paid to pick. Anyone else?

I love Ancient Tones by Ricky Scaggs, and I like some of Alison Krauss' work. Was also introduced to a bunch of older stuff (vinyl) in college.

I'll take bluegrass over pop-country any day. I love Iron Horse's covers of Ozzy and Metallica songs. Gives me a great appreciation for the musicians' skill and the original artists lyrics. I'm not a player, tho. I've heard the banjo is a pretty difficult instrument to master.

We don't get to hear much bluegrass down here in Florida. One thing I miss about living in Louisville, Kentucky was the bluegrass festival they used to hold on the belvedere. You could see some of the seminal acts of bluegrass up close. Seeing Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, and Sam Bush all perform in my hometown really spoiled me.

Ever made it to Uncle Dave Macon Days (http://www.uncledavemacondays.com/festival.htm)here? That'll fill your bluegrass-hungry stomach, for sure.

Yeah, I've got the bluegrass in my blood... have lots of family who pick, also. I even have a fairly famous relative.
I grew up the foothills of the blueridge and was always surrounded by old-time and bluegrass music.
I've played the banjo when I was younger, but I preferred the guitar, so that's what I play now.
My wife and I saw Ralph Stanley perform just last week, in fact...
(don't think Death is gonna spare him over for many more years :( )

I've been to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival once for all 4 days and then a few times for just a day.
Some of the best music I've ever heard live in an amazing setting. Anyone else ever been to that festival?

More newgrass than bluegrass, if that distinction matters. Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, Matt Flinner, etc. Then it sort of filters out to the folkies like Tim O'Brien, Danny Barnes and his ilk. I've got a dobro, but haven't put in the time to learn how to play it.
Telluride sounds like a lot of fun. What years were you there, telenick?

I don't play any myself, but I wish I did. Lot of bluegrass up here in Northern Colorado. If any of you are familiar with Open Road and Hit and Run, some of the members own (and play in the house band of) the new Swing Station bar in Laporte, CO. There is nothing in this world as cool as having a bar with a house bluegrass band less than a mile from your house. Great music.
