Mountain Biking - Question Please Answer A.S.A.P.

Hello Everyone,

Just a introduction of me i just got back from my Outdoor Education and my Cabin Leader said he mountain biked and use to be a Ametuer for Specialized. So this morning i went to my Local Bike stores and i tried out 2 bikes. The Bikes were a: Trek Bruiser and the other one was a Specialized Hardrock. The Specialized Hardrock was $350.00. And the Trek Bruiser is $300.00. So i was wondering which is a better bike. I forgot to say im going to use it for the Skatepark and for going downhill on mountains and going off jumps on the mountain downhill. So thanks in Advance~~~

for what you the riding you describe a bruiser, no doubt in my mind, will be the better bike. if you want specialized a p.series would better suit your needs. now i am not saying to go out and get one, becasue there are other bikes you should look at. santa cruz has some nice bikes, kona also makes some good bikes.

why do u think a bruiser is better?

the hardrock isnt meant to be a 'beat the hell out of it,' 'tough as nails bike.'

im gonna use it for like my local skatepark for like bowls and stuff and going downhill off jumps. also i tried both the bikes like rode them and i really liked the hard rocks gears and shocks better. so do u still think a bruiser would be betteR? thank you

For 50 bucks you could put a better rear derailleur on the bruiser.

are you talking about an 05 or 06? i know the 05s but arent too sure of the specs on the 06 models.

The hardrock isn't meant for skateparks or downhill riding. The bruiser is beefyer and can workout for jumps and some downhill.

Just a warning: the Bruiser 1s fork bust easily, both my mates who bought Bruiser 1s busted their forks 3 weeks and 5 weeks after the purchase of the bikes, respectively, and that was the forks being ridden fairly lightly by light riders...

For skatepark Id suggest, specialized p1 p2 or p3, trek jack1 jack1 or jack 3, kona cowan.

newbbiker, do you have a price range? i am thinking you want to spend around 300. i would get the bruiser. and you can upgrade it as you go along.

the p.series starts at 600. the jack, well the jack is just ugly as all hell. konas start at around 500 i think. and a santa cruz is expensive. <<<<<my reasoning in thinking the bruiser would be the best.

It's not meant for parks but mine has held up well. It sounds like a P. bike would fit the bill.

I second that. Look into the P. series. It would sort your needs for jumping/skatepark/urban if you do.

Of the two bikes listed the Bruiser would be much better for you.

If it's between the Bruiser and the Hardrock I'd get the bruiser, just because you'll break it and it'd be a shame to break a Specialized (j/k :D)

But seriously, expand your budget and get a P.1 or even a P.2. The P.1 would be better because singlespeed is a lot better for that type of riding than geared ever will be - you'll see.

ok ive decided im probally gonna get the Specalized Hard Rock Sport cause its really nice on me oh yah im only 12 so i sort-of cant really break a bike cause i only way like 75 pounds hehe

Bruiser. The Bruiser 1 comes disc ready. You can put disc brakes on it without buying new wheels or hubs. If you can, get it in the 14.5 inch size, it would be much better for skatepark. Have fun.

I can't believe everybody here has told you to get the Bruiser and you've decided to go for the Hard Rock. Why even bother asking for advice when you've already made your mind up.
