I might have access to this frame if I can get my friend to sell it to me...but anyone know specs of these frames? I think it is british...but how are seat post & stem sizing and bb problems?? it's got cottered cranks..would it be easy to convert to cotterless? I just don't want to get it if it will end up being a big headache.

i thought "volks" was german for "people" like in volkswagen... so wouldn't it be german?

As far as I know, converting the cranks is basically out with the old, in with the new. My friend did it on his Raleigh.

Volkscycles were made in Japan by JWB (odd, huh). I have a road frame from the early 70s from them that is great. I'll post it here... give me a sec....

British threading is pretty standard and easy to work with, no? I haven't had any troubles with components or anything. Should be a good conversion.

Beautiful!!

Did you have to get a new bb...? I just need to know if it will be expensive to upgrade to cotterless cranks...Ive got a pair of 165 suginos that I want to put in.

I thought "Volkscycle" was German for "person with a stick up their butt".

that's a pretty cool conversion. nice. i think an awfully painted bike purchased recently for my lady friend may actually be one of those...i'll have to check the lugs again.

I did put in a new bottombracket in it, but it was at the co-op, so I had lots of help and knew nothing about it. If I had to guess, I would say that it won't be too expensive for you to change bb's for something that will fit the suginos. Mine are presently cotter-less and came from a used parts bin, so you should be able to find something that works. Good luck, it's a great ride.

Here's another fixed gear VOLKSCYCLE (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2004/c/siemering.htm) that has cotterless cranks. The owner does not have much info either but his email address is on the FG Gallery page. maybe you could contact him and ask about seatpost size and BB threading.

Decent quality cartridge bearing bottom brackets won't break the bank.

Repeat five times quickly.

Man, everytime I see a set I fall in love with those green Vittorias. I wish I had an excuse to roll 'em. I guess I'm a slave to fashion.
