Two nights ago, my wife, our 12 year old son and I put our bikes on the back of the car and went into the city for a ride.

It was about an hour before sunset, and we started at Southbank, a major park and recreation area in Brisbane where World Expo was in 1988. We headed over the Goodwill Bridge (a bridge over the Brisbane River that is dedicated to bikes and pedestrians) and skirted the city along the river.

We went through the Botanical Gardens, past heaps of moored boats with many live-aboards enjoying a beer or wine in the warmth of the afternoon, past city buildings and paddle wheel cruise boats loading up their passengers for a night out on the river, past a wedding party just arriving at their reception, past diners enjoying the river views and finally skirted only inches about the water on our floating river walkway watching the boats sail past.

We finished back at Southbank where we had a meal before going home.

It made us all realise there is a whole part of Brisbane that we just didn't realise existed, and it was great having quality time with the family and gatting some exercise as well.

You should move closer, and/or get one of those houseboats yourselves... :)

That is one of the greatest thing about cycling. You get to see things in ways you never could before. There is something better about seeing your surroundings from a bicycle saddle.

Glad you had so much fun

Gee that sounds like such a delightful time. It is so good to be able to have your family do that together.
