Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Thanks for such a huge resource! This site is great.
I am a 34 year old male from Baltimore, MD, just getting back into the saddle after a 15 year hiatus. The last bike I owned and rode, semi-competively, was a 1972 Schwinn P-13, back when I was about 16 years old.
After reading this forum and talking to the guys at my LBS, I decided to purchase a 2005 Lemond Croix de Fer with 105/Altegra components. It's a great looking bike with classic geometry, and it's steel. I paid $1000 for it, out the door. I plan on using it mostly for indoor training/excersize, but of course, when the weather warms up, I'll be hitting the streets with it too.
Any comments on this bike are welcomed..as well as suggestions on improving it. I probibly won't be doing any upgrades quite yet, but if I get back into riding like when I was 16, this could wnd up being a very expensive hobby ;)
Also, I'd love to meet some riders in the NW Baltimore County area to hook up with for rides....any of you Baltimorons out there???

Hey Hon! Let's go down de Ocean!
I am new here too so I don't know anyone, but I'm sure there are a few out there. Sadly I am a dirt rider, though I am trying to pick up a decent old steelie roadie in the next couple weeks. Once I get it up to shape I am all for going out for a good ride.
And no worries, I am coming off a yearlong break, so I'm fat and out of practice too, plus I am new to the pavement :) Checking in from Columbia, MD
Check out the Ride Partners forum. I know there was a guy out in Baltimore asking for ride partners.
Well, welcome to cycling and welcome to bikeforums!

Hey,
your a dirt rider, so you'd know a bit about new 2006 bikes right?
I'm looking to break into the hardtail, trail scene and I've got a budget of about $1000-$1800AU. What could you recomend?

Saturdays, 10:00 AM, Mt. Washington Bike Shop on Falls Road. This ride is the LSV/Kelly Benefit Strategies training ride. Size, length and pace all vary depending on weather and who shows up. Usually, there is something for everyone. This ride peters out when the racing season starts. There is also a Sunday ride in Howard County.
Here is the club link:

Once we have daylight 'till 7 PM, the Wednesday night ride out of Oregon Ridge Park in north Baltimore County will get going. This ride is multi-club, about 30 miles and the front is fast, but the pack splinters up and everybody finds somebody to ride with.
Also check out the BBC for touring rides:

Perfect! Oregon Ridge is about 2 miles from me, and by spring I hope to be in good enough shape to be able to keep up!
As far as Mt. Washington Bike Shop...I know the place well. Joe just sold me my new LeMond Croix de Fer, and when I was about 16 years old, I spent alot of time in the shop there as an apprentice (aka coffee runner/trash taker-outer).
Thanks for the 411!
