I think it's just as silly as livestrong. If I want to donate to a cause I'll donate directly and not support the production of little plastic pieces of crap that do nothing.

they have been making livewrong bracelets since last fall (I think). they have a bracelet to support everything now, it's ridiculous.

yeah, that's a good point. sorry. i can't really justify it, i just like insensitive humor. i guess it's hard for me to realize that some people are actually that insensitive.

EDIT: cancer has actually killed off a good portion of my family. i also post things pretty much exclusively when i'm drunk.

i agree with juvi-kyle that it's a little dirty to make the bracelets that are a direct opposition to lance's cancer funding... i don't care what the site says about not being against anyone... you can't make a very similar product with a very similar, antonym name and try and play it off like you aren't saying anything about the armstrong foundation...

We're all cyclists, every one of us, and that's the point of LIVEWRONG. No pretenders here. And we ride it all: Two wheels, one... whatever: road, mountain, fixed, singlespeed, gay unicycles... If it's got wheels and pedals we're pretty much down.
then wtf is the point of calling it liveWRONG? get your own name, don't rip off someone else.

but really to me i'm just sick of seeing ONE MORE ****ING bracelet out there. as much as i respect what lance has done for cancer research, i am long tired of the trend he's started. enough is enough

most of these fundraisers are pretty cool i think. i just wish people could donate without feeling like they need recognition for it. that's the thing that bugs me most about livestrong, seeing kids wearing livestrong bands on the same arm they're using to smoke a butt. i am far from straightedge, but that' just dumb. i am also ranting, so whoever is in charge, feel free to delete this thread.

There seems to be a lot of anti-Lance sentiment floating around the SS/FG forum - not specifically this thread - and honestly I don't understand.
Seriously, can someone enlighten me to some of the common gripes people have?

his bike has derailers! ;)

i dunno, i have no beef. he's a little cocky, but hell, most people who are very successful in their fields have very strong personalities like that.

maybe the backlash isn't so much against lance as it is against the incredibly excessive attention he's recieved?

I'm sorry, but you can't go through life without a sense of humor. I lost two grandfathers, a grandmother, one of my best friends, and my mother is a breast cancer survivor. But to pretend that by spoofing a little yellow bracelet is the cause for millions of cancer deaths... lighten up a little.

Not flaming you, just asking you to be a little less sensitive.

I'm under the impression that people buy the Livestrong bracelets because they feel the need to conform. Sure, funding cancer research is great, but it's not about that...it's about being the only guy in your bike club, gym or office without one.

It's a secret admission of yuppitude-- visual handshake of sorts that says "I, too, am dealing with a midlife crisis (and an insatiable urge to bang Sheryl Crow)."

Perhaps "LIVEWRONG" is more about mocking mortality than seeking some sorta lame-o camaraderie about the sinking ship of your personal fleshbucket.

woof...definitely some bundled panties in this thread. i think the "livewrong" thing is pretty funny...bracelet? nah, i'll wait for the stickers. stuffed landfills? they were reaching capacity well before all of these bracelet campaigns came along! i feel like anyone who can hang out all day, surfing bike sites on the net is probably contributing to a disposable society, cheap bracelet or not.
anyways, the drunkcyclist crew is behind all of these shenanigans, and if you've ever been to that site, you know they don't give a f@*k what we think here!

This isn't exactly news... but it is funny how these guys have been going for months whereas the Skidstrong folks (now Fisso) had to change it after a few weeks. Ho-hum.

See, now if there was any cause that required a bracelet, that would be it. It'd be nice if they were a bit more up front, like a BangCrow bracelet or something...

i know i am a newbie on here, but i felt the need to register and put my 2 cents worth in. My mom died of cancer about 6 months ago. now, i am sure that you are thinking i am going to bash slopvehicle for posting this, but really, i think this is one of the best posts on this thread. i know my mom would never want to be remember as losing her battle with cancer, and i know she would not want to be remembered as some cultural fad. and that, my fellow bikers, is why i wear a livewrong bracelet. to celebrate my mom and her constant push to keep me who i was, to do my own thing, and not to be ashamed of who i am. i constantly see the livestrong bracelet in chicago, and it is almost a slap in the face. it seems most people are buying them because it is socially "in" to wear one, and the fact that it helps cancer research comes second. there are plenty of people that wear the livestrong bracelet because they truely believe in the cause, and i salute them, and there are plenty of posers whom wear the livewrong bracelet because they think it is cool and want to be outcasts.
so, before you pass judgement, make sure you have all the facts, everything out there has it's true believers, but it also has it's tag alongs.

i have no particular disdain for lance, per se. but, i must say that i could give a **** about him and the tour de france. professional road cycling does not interest me whatsoever. so, when someone yells "GO LANCE," or "TOUR DE FRANCE, DUDE" at me when i'm riding my bike, i tend to develop a bit of antagonism. it used to happen every ****ing day. sometimes, up to twice in the same mile. being "lanced," as it were, has annoyed me to no ****ing end. it's sort of funny in a "god, what sort of ******bag yells that sort of ****" way, but jesus ****ing christ. not that it's actually the fault of anyone other than the ******bags shouting, but it certainly doesn't help it when 90% of the time that i hear someone mention lance, it's when i'm being heckled.

there. that's my lance rant. when it comes down to it, i don't really care about him one way or another, but i hate it when people assume that i'm lance's biggest fan when they learn that i ride my bike all of the time.

Those Livewrong bracelets started as a way to make money for a family that lost someone. The Drunkcyclist helped promote it cause he knew the family and wished to help them raise money for their bills. Then the money from the cause was moved to that cycling group there in AZ.

I think they're great if not just because when I see one I know I am talking to someone who I have something in common. We might visit the same site, discuss on the same forums, and probably both enjoy riding bikes.

Take it easy.
