I'm currently living in Kodiak AK (island) And am 28 yo. I'm active duty Coast Guard originially from Boston. MA. I have just recently bought my first mountain bike since I was 14 years old when I save up enough to buy a Shwinn Impact Pro, Long time ago! I bought a 2005 Trek Liquid 25, 17.5". If anyone could give me ideas on training, maintenance or accesories I would be very greatfull. Thanks in advance and looking forward to the boards.

Purty place! Lucky bugger. Watch out for those pesky bears, though! Do you get to see the volcano?

Welcome to forums! I thought you were going to say you worked in the cannery or on a trawler, though. ;)
You must do a lot of mountain climbing.

Do you use your bike for transportation, or just for DH fun?

Ash is a mess, but it could be worse - like 15 miles of lava headed for town:

My neighborhood is somewhere in that picture.... :D

Welcome to the forum. We just transferred from The Rock down here to Michigan. Spent 6 years total on Kodiak, loved every minute of it!
My wife took 2nd place for women in the Sockeye Salmon Classic in '04, I took 1st place for men.
What unit are you at?

You'll love this! MILPOL!
I'm a BM1, basically I'm billeted here to make sure these younger guys dont get into trouble. So far the stay has been great but I am already looking forward to going back operational! I'm awarded with alot of time off (it doesent seem fair) and this is deffinatley a nice place to enjoy family time. Plus the money is outstanding isn't it? Where were you stationed?

That's Hilo (here) in 1984, the last time the lava came near town. Towns south of here get buried in lava every decade or so. I hiked out to that 1984 lava flow today, actually. Fortunately we don't need to carry bear spray. :)

I'm an MST1 and was out of rate for 4-years at the Air Station doing wx forecasting for the fly-boys. Now I'm at Sector Sault Ste. Marie doing L/E (finishing up my BTM for the 2nd time in my career), doing MTSA stuff, and that sort of thing.
If you run into an MSTC Jeff Estes, make sure you pull him over/stop him at the gate/whatever. And be on the lookout for an EX-MSTC Chris Baker...who was kicked out of the CG about 1.5 years before retirement (courtesy of ME!).
Yeah, enjoy Kodiak for us!

Andy I got to be real with you, I'm not big on pulling people over! But I'll keep an eye out for ya!
As far as the Liquid Hot Magma goes I'll take my chances with pooh bear and some Oleoresin capsicum any day of the week and twice on sunday!!
