A newbie here...I'm the new owner of what I believe to be a Peugeot. No idea what model. This is where I thought I might solicit some input. Any at all will be appreciated. I will list everything I do know and attempt to throw in a pic or two. Thank you all in advance.

Shimano 600
shifters
cranks
derailers

Shimano E L
hubs

Rims
Weinmann
Made in Belgium

Brakes
Weinmann
vented levers
made in western Germany

Handle Bars
Alps

Stem
Alps

The pedals and the saddle are definitley not original. On every part of the bike that can be separated, there are the numbers "9991" engraved. There are no visible markings on the frame that might tell me a model number or identify the frame style. Is this enough to go on, or does anyone know of a way I can "reveal" any markings? Thanks again.

Thanks again for the help, Luker.

I don't think a Peugeot would have Shimano stuff hanging off it - not from the factory, anyway.....

My '90 Peugeot Ventoux is factory default Shimano Exage build...

i don't know about that. even crappy later peugeot might have something shimano on it, or maybe just in Canadian units. the lugs don't say peugeot to me, but maybe just never seen that style before.

Post the serial number. The format will tell us if Peugeot is a possibility. If it matches and it's a 1980s model, we can even get the year.

I'd like to see a shot of the head tube lugs. Given the clips on the top tube, and the clamp on shifters, the bike frame looks earlier to me, but the fork looks later... seems like a frankenbike to me. Really quite uncertain. Repaint?

T-Mar,
I don't see any numbers, but after searching a little closer, I do see "SunTour GS" on the rear dropouts. On the dropouts of the front forks I see "Tange-TF". I guess I just assumed it might have been Peugeot based on the chrome forks. Any ideas with this new bit of information?

The fork is pretty much sure to be from the very late 80's early 90's, and the frame itself is solidly in the early 70s...there are nooo brazeons anywhere. Weinmann concave rims and early 600 parts are from the later 70's. definitely a remix, and a paint job. And suntour track pedals? I think that the frame is a nice one, though, with those really long points on the lugs, and the forged dropout ends. They're distinctive enough that someone (unh, TMar, maybe?) might recognize the manufacturer. Just as easily, though, this could be a small custom builder that used real long-point prugnats with the suntour dropouts...

The small pin on the chainring is supposed to be oriented behind the crankarm. If you have an outer deraillment with the chainring in that orientation, you can get a real jammed up mess...

Great information. I appreciate it. I gotcha on the chainring pin. I have been taking the whole bike apart for cleaning and I put it back together a little hastily.

I picked it up at the goodwill for $20. So far I like the way it rides. It's pretty solid. It has a lot of torque. I will be replacing things here and there if I find that it's not worth it to restore to original. I don't trust the scale I use to be exact, but it weighs in around 24lbs.
