So I just got back from an awesome bike ride with a bunch of the RVA loners and I just thought I'd brag. We didn't get any harrasment from the cops even though there were eight of us, half without lights of any kind and we were at one point riding by a cop going the wrong way down a one-way street(dumb I know but it was only one block and 12:00 at night). We were also in the middle of the street doing circles while we waited for part of the group as two cops drove by(we were in front of the station). As we finally wrapped it up I took a left turn on red that forced a cop (didn't notice it was a cop and it was starting to rain hard so I was trying to get home) to stop and he just yelled at my girlfriend(who did stop) "I'm glad someone recognizes a red light". Sorry you guys in NYC and SF have to deal with such harsh rules (or the enforcement thereof). End.

Actually most of the time you can get away with that in NYC. Only during ticket blitzes and on the last friday of the month is there trouble.

From some of the pics and video's and tv shots that I've seen of some parts of NY, I don't see how a copy can actually catch you if you decide to keep going if they are sitting in their car with a radar gun, or just watching for people who take red lights..

Unless there are other cops on foot or bikes at every corner just waiting to catch you if you run past them...

either way, if a cop called me I might stop... lol

yeah, lol richmond. it seems cops around here are actually pretty cool in this regard, though i hear we've got a couple that are ticketing for lack of lights now. thankfully i carry both tail and head lights so it's all good.

That ride was pretty sick... But a further example of the cops general coolnes in Richmond is the fabled White Walls skate spot. I realize this is a bit off topic but if ur caught skating anywhere in downtown Richmond, more often than not they cops will tell u to go skate at the polic station on Canal Street which for some reason has a vert wall. Its pretty sweet to know you can skate next to a police station with no worry of harrasment.

as for reston...how did you almost get arrested there...i live about two minutes from Reston VA and i was under the impression that they didn't know what a bicycle was.

I'm always surprised to see how my old stomping grounds -Reston- seems to be so well known here at BF? It's a relatively small, (but nice & well developed) community . . but, still.. it's only Rest-on.

I second the awesomeness that was last nights ride.
Though I would like to point out that a certain hill devoured me in all my single speed glory...
***** hill...

Oh coppies, how diligent.

it's funny, around here, cops are supposed to give you lights, but last night two cops slowed down to my speed and drove along with me giving me these very courteous reminders that i need lights (i actually have them; it's the dead batteries and being broke that are the problem). no offers, though.
