Everyone hates Kenny G's taste in music, but he's a good musician. Same with Celine Dione, Van Halen, Skynard, etc. All excellent musicians, you just don't like them.

Pretty much everyone, (music critics, VH fans, the deaf,) agrees that Van Halen's stuff with Hagar and the "Extreme" guy is complete crap. Methinks Eddie and Alex are the ones with their head firmly lodged in each other's posteriors, despite their former greatness.

i think bad musicians are like bad movies. The ones that are cheap, cheezy, that no one sees, we don't have great expectations. BAD movies are the ones which invest a lot of money and big stars and talent and are truly horrible in spite of it. Same with musicians. How much they sell or how successful they are has nothing to do with how good they are. REALLY bad means that in spite of everything, their songs suck!

Innovated? Yeah, new techniques to jam more notes per second in. The guy is the most overblown musican of all time. Even the "Brown Sound" is crap.

I tell you, guitarists are a dime a dozen who can shred just as, if not five times faster than EVH. Vernon Reid, one of the best guitarists living or dead, can play exponentially more notes per measure than Eddy Van Halen ever could dream of, and not only that but he actually has some substance and meaning in his solos.. Playing fast does not mean that it's not good.. But playing fast by itself means nothing.. -nothing I tells ya.
