Hi guys, I'm reposting this from the general forum. I wasn't sure which would yield the best replys:

I'm a newbie to this forum (and to cycling). I hope I'm not breaking any rules...

Anyway, I've been searching all night for info on Falcon bicycles. I cannot find much on more recent models or historical info.

The reason I am searching is I found a shop in my town with 3or4-year-old "new old stock" frames w/forks. The owner said they were bought as leftover when Falcon went out of business (or changed hands). they are beautiful old-style looking frames. the owner said they where made in England.

what I'm wondering is:
How good are these? did Falcon undergo any changes 3-4 years ago? does anybody know if these frames are worth the $200 they are asking? Are these high-end bikes?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks & happy riding
David

I think Falcon are still in business.

You can find a list of their bikes at:

www.falconcycles.co.uk (http://www.falconcycles.co.uk)

In the UK they are at the cheap end of the market. And sold in catalogues, and some supermarkets etc.

I've never ridden one so can't comment on their quality, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for.

Do a seach for 'falcon bike' on

www.google.co.uk (http://www.google.co.uk)

(not .com) Make sure that 'pages from the UK' radio button is selected. You should get plenty of results about Falcon bikes.

Falcon was a nice marque back in the day
(read 70's and 80's) although not the popularity
of say a Raliegh Lenton, or Holdsworth etc.
Their 531 frames were nice, Ernie Clements
designed frames. I believe the touring frames
were ok.
I truely lusted after a Falcon after my best friend
got one when I was in college and was stuck riding
a gaspipe schwinn.
What model frame are you looking at?

If anyone's interested in the current state of the Falcon Cycles there's an interesting article in the Nov/Dec edition of What Mountain Bike. Falcon is now one of many brands (including Dawes, Claud Butler etc.) of the company that owns 25% or the market for £200+ bikes in the UK, and after Raleigh moved manufacturing overseas its the last remaining mass market brand still manufacturing in the UK.

Along lotek's lines Reynolds framed Falcons were fine bikes in the 70s-early 80s. I remember from my college days a model probably from the early 1960s (about 20 years old at the time) with thin cotterd cranks and Campy drivetrain in a beautiful "Carolina" blue finish. I doubt Falcon used that description for their blue but they used the color for quite awhile. What color is "your" frame.

You do get what you pay for but sometimes a deal is truly a deal. What tubing is the frame made from is the $64,000 (or at least $200) question.
