The bike I am about to buy was built with the components off of a 2001 Schwinn Homegrown Comp. Is there any design or functionality difference between the 2001 Shimano parts and those that come on a new 2003 bike? The bike has Shimano LX hollowtech cranks, LX shifters and XT derailliers. Any info would be appreciated.

newer ones are lighter. the xtr line for 03 is drastically different (brake levers that wiggle to shift, etc).

the newer hollowtechs are lighter, too, i think. v brakes have stronger parallel push. thats all i got on the top of my head.

LX and XT hasnt changed since 2001. Only alivio, acera, altus, and XTR have changed.
