Introductions - Greetings from Indianapolis

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been lurking for a week or two and finally registered. The info in the forums is very good.
I'm 30 yr old former collegiate and Little 500 racer. Racing is not my priority these days but I still get out a lot on the road and trails. I’m also not that tough about riding in bad weather any more. I commute 20 miles to work once or twice per week when daylight and weather allow and enjoy a good group training ride once in awhile. If I get motivate I’ll do a couple of Cat 4-5 races this summer.

Hi,
How is road biking in Indy? I left there in 1966. Sister lives on the west side close to Eagle Creek park.
Mother on the east side near Post Road and Washington.
The east side especially seems not bike friendly.
Have thought about taking a bike back when visiting sometime.
Regards,
Lee from oregon

Hey Bikerlee. Indy is not the most bike friendly city but once out in the country a little the riding is fine, although mostly flat and straight. If you are looking for some in-town riding, Eagle Creek Park is a good place for safe riding with some small rollers and Ft. Harrison Park on the east side is good for some slightly bigger hills. I use the Monon Trail (rails to trails route) when riding downtown to work. That is a safe way to ride in the city, although parts can be crowded with walkers, joggers, roller bladers, etc. on weekday afternoons and on the weekends.

Hi Hoosier biker: I'll be in Indy for the Final Four the first of April. Where can I rent a road bike and do some rides? Would it be better to try and go to Bloominton to rent a bike? Let me know if you're up for a few quick rides. Take care

frankieN,
I don't know of anywhere to rent a road bike in Indy or Bloomington. That doesn't mean there is not such a place, but I have never heard of one. Sorry.

As a former resident of Indy I know well the advantages and disadvantages of riding there. It is good to see a utilitairin cyclist. I've been one all my life commutting in Indy, Boston and now Minneapolis. Hope your conditions change for the better. As always the more riders just doing it means less cars just doing it.
