there seems to be a bevel-gear take-off from the cranks, leading to a shaft, another gear and shaft arrangement on the headtube, splined shaft, and bevel gear power feed on the front hub. Looks to be:

a) heavy
b) expensive
c) difficult to work on
d) did I mention that it looks heavy?

I'm not much of an ATB'er, but it seems to me that conditions where having both wheels driven might be better traversed by walking the bike. Sure makes things lighter and cheaper, don't it?

There must be some serious power/torque loss.
