Mountain Biking - What kind of riding do you do?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Just trying to see what kind of riders make up the mountain bike review section.

Freeride and xc. :)...

I would try dh but I don't trust my bike enough for the speed.

Mostly XC but I'm going to try some Cyclocross this season. I just posted my Cyclocross Bike Pic in the Cycloross forum. Check it out.

I had to choose the "other" catagory. I ride xc/dh/fr & mx. From time to time will attempt trials but I am not to good at it.

how is the MX? Have you done DS? if so, which do you like better?

how is the MX?

My bad. I was thinking motorcross not mountaincross. Next season I will race mtn-x.

I voted "other", because XC and Freeride mean different things to different people. I don't race XC, but do a lot of longer rides. I would consider my style more "FR", but don't do huge drops.

I would describe my style as "Agressive XC", if you were to categorize it.

I also occasionally will do some "shuttle" runs when I travel, so throw DH into the mix.

Heck, I hate all the sub-divisions, I just say I'm a mountainbiker, and call it at that!

I would be in the same boat A2. So many divisions. I am even starting to play in trials more and next year I intend to practice some dirtjumping to hone my 'airborn' skills. :)

XC only for me. Living in GA (not the north) doesn't help much for the rest of the categories....

I'm with A2, I wanna be a Mountain Biker, so thats what I am...
But I do like XC racing...
I just like to quantify my progress once a month...

wow we got a lot of xc riders here.

Easiest and cheapest of the mountain bike genres to get into. You can use a cheap bike with ok parts and still have fun. In order to dh or freeride you need something burlier and more expensive :)

I also think it helps develop skills that would be used in the other categories, so that's another plus!

yeah, no matter where you go with mountain biking you have to start with XC.

I am a XC'er at Heart, but this year I tried DH on a 2001 Norco VPS Team DH.. wow, what a thrill! I also was playing around with freeriding on a 2001 Santa Cruz Bullit...

I'll always be an XC'er first, but now I have more options when I go out and ride! Plus, the new stills I am learning are making my XC rides even more fun!

Nope...I know a number of bmxers that jumped right to freeriding or trials. They can't go the distances but they have far more control for dh or freeriding. I don't do any xc and am trying dh and freeriding and trials. My xc is limited to a total of 2 or 3 hours intense technical xc. Nothing all out flat (I can't do it).

Well, I'm too afraid of crashing to try anything else! :)

Flat out cross country mainly, hard too define though as I have not raced yet, so my cross country consists of mostly flat with jumps and logs etc thrown in for good measure, I dont belive in going around a potentialy crossable obstacle, I found some nice routes with some good trails downhill through woodland which has to be the most thrilling part. My bikes a full susser with triple clamp forks so it should handle some high speed downhill, I've just got too work on dropoffs though as tend too sometimes slow too much and litterally drop off.
